Certainly Diafol. That is really what I was suggesting to Declan. Pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, dog owners, scooterists, joggers, they/we can all cause accidents, so civil insurance is a very good idea imo.

I got £13k compensation when a woman driving on her phone hit me.

I wish I had known I could sue when a double decker bus hit me and broke my arm when it drove in a bike lane

Civil insurance isn't tax, need not be expensive, and I think would be a good thing.

I meant in terms of blame more than anything.

The civil 'tax' was just a throwaway idea. Wish I hadn't said it now really but, if you can't tax every year, perhaps add it to the cost of a car/bike when purchased.

I don't think I'll be cycling in England then. The people seem like knobheads, just in general.

I don't care what anyone says on here I will maintain that car drivers, cyclists and pedestrians need to be more aware of their surrounding when on or near a road.

There are far too many people who think they are the only ones using that particular space at that particular time.

Car drivers need to be careful because with their heavy vehicles they can do untold harm to others (and themselves)

Cyclists and pedestrians need to be aware and careful because they are most vulnerable as they don't have the body of a car to protect them.

I don’t think anyone would disagree with this, but too often the burden of responsibility is heaped on cyclists who are unfairly portrayed as being less law abiding than drivers.

Haven’t read the last 13 pages but I’ll presume a reasoned debate about cyclists was had by all.

Nothing to do with licencing cyclists but civil insurance. You may be getting bored but you have to read before replying.

From my experience anyway what I think it is is that when you're driving you are in 'driving mode' and therefore see cyclists doing silly things and when you're on the bike you're more likely to pick up on what drivers are doing.
