As you said, it depends on what direction Lampard takes. I do like Jorginho, and I’m interested to see how he plays outside of a system, but we do have many players who are/could be frightening on the transition (e.g., Pulisic, CHO, RLC, Kante)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jorgino had a very strange year, I backed him, then got the hump a bit, and then he had a strong finish to the season.

Surprisingly it was his defensive nous and reading of the game that excelled this year, his passing was actually pretty poor at times.

He is very good at reading the game and making interceptions, but he is reliant on defending zonally. If Lampard continues his approach of committing more players forward his lack of pace could be an issue for us, like in the games where he was forced to cover areas of the pitch outside his responsibility.

Something changed around Nov-Dec. I dunno if it was Sarri or Jorginho himself but he stopped playing like a Regista advancing between/beyond the CM's, he began sitting back like a standard DLP - was no surprise he had a couple of dodgy months, he lacks the strength for that role and made him easy to man mark. He grew into it as the season developed but he was still most effective when he drifted up the pitch (e.g. Brighton home).

Seeing how he'll perform for a different manager will be very interesting. As Sideshow says his reading of the game is sound but he lacks the aggression/pace to press, so I see him adopting more of a shuttler role in the defensive phase outside of the 433, which is fine if Kante's next to him.

We have an option to loan for a season I think I read...I'd take that option up myself
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sheriff, my understanding is that RM, want to sell and not to loan, in order to fund moves for other more high profile.

As many have said, he's an ok player but brings very little to the table to justify a big spend + a 3 year minimum contract.

We'd be then going into the next transfer window that we can trade in with him stuck on our books, minus all that money we could have spent on a player who could make a difference.

I see no logic in a move like this whatsoever!

Kovacic reminds me of a seat filler at the Oscars - he's there to fill space until someone better takes over. I am quite sure we would not consider paying £50M for him if it weren't for the fact that we are under a transfer ban. He's nice to have if our good players aren't fit - but certainly not worth wasting half of our Hazard money on. Let's hold onto that for next year when we can use it all on actual first team players - rather than a neat and tidy substitute.

The thing about Lampard is - he is not going to be judged on this year alone. He has a free hit this coming season, so why not take a risk on playing Mason Mount instead of Kovacic. We already have Jorginho, Barkley and Kante for the middle. And I suspect it would be a no-brainer to ignore Kovacic and go with RLC had he been fit. In a sense, the only reason to invest in Kovacic would be to cover for RLC - which may be until the end of 2019. Which seems a ridiculous waste of money for just a few months. Is Kovacic going to get game time after December? I can't see it.

Plus - we already have Drinkwater and Bakayoko as substitutes if we are desperate, and those guys are free. Is Kovacic £50M better than those guys? As a substitute?

I'd steer well clear of buying Kovacic unless we could get him for peanuts. Still not sure exactly what he brings to the team and when he plays alongside Jorginho we're far too negative and toothless.

Well I am hoping the Jorginho issue was just related to him following the managers instructions. And that both him and Kova can move a little higher and Kante can come more back in the middle.

I don't think so. I'd say that's just how Kova plays. I'd take him as a useful squad player in a season where we can't buy players but I'd rather the club looked at the likes of Mount and Ampadu to play a bigger part next season.

Well lets hope that the next week goes very quickly is all I want to say. Style but no substance for me. No end-product footballer IMO.

Only 40 million !, lets hope Frank can get a bit more out of him then, .......................................just hope he likes him !

posted on 27/6/19

Looks like it's happening. I feel like we've just wasted a huge portion of the Hazard money that could be put to better use next season.

I just don't see him as integral to anything that he'll make a huge difference to us.

Still, as always support anyone who has the Blue shirt on when the cross the white line!

I would hope so. Although they clearly don't consult the people on ja606.
