Well, he was probably in the top 3 right backs in one of the best, if not the best league in the world last year, for a full season, not just based on a purple patch of for for am month or so.

He had a decent season though and if you say it made him worth £50 million then fair enough, we might have to just agree to disagree.

But I was picking up on the comment about paying for potential.

We said the same about Rafael and Darmian, I have high hopes for this guy though. He’s clearly very talented

Even if Zaha goes for £50m that's still £12.5m for United so, if the £45m plus £5m add ons is true then I think Ed & team have done a decent job here seeing as how AWB wouldn't have joined much sooner anyway because of U21 duty.

I also don't buy the story that we're only working on one deal at a time although the story of AWB dragging on is a good smokescreen if we wanted it to be.

I said the other day I think we'll see a burst of 2 or (hopefully) 3 signings in the next fortnight, so if we get this one wrapped up by the weekend then maybe I wasn't far off.

people really need to have an understanding of transfer fees.

he is 21 years old ffs, and was superb last season.

at 21 he either is nowhere near good enough ( but thats the risk you take with all transfers... see Di Maria) or he has a long and successful career at the club, or he he has a good career here and is sold on at either a profit or a small loss... so.. 50 million for a possible 12 year career at utd, with the way the transfer fees are soaring is pretty decent in my book.

How many consecutive seasons would he have to perform as one of the top right backs in the league before he's worth £50m in todays (this summers) market?

At least two imo, and even then we're dealing with a player who we've not seen in any competition or set up other than Hodgson in the league.
