Club working on 1 or 2 more

If we got a CM in, and it were someone like Longstaff, for the long term, whilst losing Herrera and either keeping an unhappy Pogba or losing him too. How would that in any way be improving for next season?

We needed 2 more quality CM's before this window, let alone after losing Ander.

The biggest issue is we cannot get rid of our poorer players.

We don't need numbers, we need better players to start in our first team.

My main concern with this is we still still be short in at least one area. We need a a forward (who actually wants to play on the right ideally), 1 cm minimum and it looks like we are after a CB. I really think this is gonna be a long season as we dont score enough and concede too many
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But we have James and Dalot who can play wide right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's poor options to have in all probability.

I think that the op needs to stop taking every phrase at word value. Ole saying that we are working on one or two more deals could mean pretty much any number. It is just a phrase.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could be.

But given the words he has actually said plus his comments about how many we will get in earlier in the window, I think this is pretty realistic.
-----------------------

I expect us to make 4-6 signings in total, depending on who leaves the club. If Lukaku and Sanchez leave it'll be 5/6 in total.

I suspect we will still bring in a CB, CM and CF when Lukaku goes. Either way, I wouldn't get too hung up on Ole's words, as the number of players we bring in will depend on who we are able to ship out. No point worrying about it now.

Well, Longstaff would be better than not signing a CM at all BUT I agree that we need an established player ready to perform from the off if we are only signing 1.

I disagree. Dalot has a great delicery and James will stretch any team. Plus we have AWB who is ace defensively and used to be a winger.

It’s all dependent upon sales. We have a massive squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This. If we don't offload any of our kak like Young, Jones, Rojo, Sanchez and Darmian then nothing much will change.

Sorry but there is circa 1000 minutes of Prem football between them. I don't think they'd start for any other top 10 side in the league personally so not too much should be expected of them imo.

I don’t think we’ll be looking to offload Jones or Young. Moving Rojo, Sanchez and Darmian off the books could prove problematic. We need to sort out the futures of Lukaku and Pogba as well.

posted on 5/7/19

I don't care if they would get in another prem side, neither would Cleverley or Kagawa probably, but we won the title with them.
It's all about the collective, and a Liverpool fan should know that, because his manager certainly does.
We will have to wait and see if Ole does.

Kagawa was good and Cleverly did get in other top ten sides???

I'm happy to give them game time. Only way they will get better.

I'm not too bothered how many we sign, so long as Ole gets the best out of what we have. Despite what some think none of our players are rubbish, and most are good to very good. It's all about getting a system that brings out the best in them all, having confidence, being fit, getting tactics right.
My slight concern is that I am not a Mike Phelan fan, I would have preferred someone else.

Which is fine but I think going into the season with James and Dalot as your RW options looks a bit irresponsible to me.

Lingard or Mata will be options there too. Not saying great options as I think our play gets too narrow but they will be options.

It'll be interesting to see what AWB does in a team that's expected to attack more as well.

I was hoping Ole would wield the axe like Pochettino did at Spurs when he arrived.

He cleared out the deadwood for cut-price fees quite quickly.

Dalot was an option last season. Don't agree abut Mata.

Perhaps Dalot and James would. If we hadn't bought James someone else would have. Pep spoke very highly of him.
All this is speculation, I could have said Robertson wouldn't get in a top ten side, but I wouldhave been wrong. And Kagawa wasn't good for us.

Id get rid of Darmian, Rojo, Jones, Matic, Sanchez OR Lukaku.

Realistically I can see 4 of them still being in the squad come kick off.

posted on 5/7/19

I don’t think Dalot will get that many games on the right wing again. Lingard, Mata, James and possibly Greenwood and Chong will likely be chosen ahead of him this coming season. Dalot will cover right back and left back.

posted on 5/7/19

Why not Ed? Has a great cross on him.

One might have said that Liverpool's right back options were not good enough when it was TAA vs Clyne, but that's because none of us knew how good TAA was.

We have to put faith in James, for sure, although equally giving him time to develop.
