Great... No prizes for guessing how much Ed will go and spend on Maguire now then.

I think many clubs are being more cautious, even the big ones.

A good few have had their fingers burned with players on massive contracts who they now cannot move on - Bale, Ozil, Sanchez probably the notable ones.

Think there is also a sense that European clubs are taking the pisssss. Historically some have simply agreed to pay whats being asked but i think EPL clubs are trying to drive a better deal where they can.

I think this year's Deadline Day is going to be totally manic and Levy will be leading the way with last minute comings and goings!

Brexit broke the transfer market.

Missing Chelsea 😉

I think one or two big transfers would see the 1 billion mark but agree it won't break any records.

Bit odd really, given the ridiculous fees being paid for average players - would have expected the opposite.

City and Liverpool are sorted. Chelsea on a ban. Spurs and Ar5enal... United struggling to attract the players they need.

Villa doing their best to raise the average.

Massively surprised this years spend is that high. Aside from Wan Bissaka I can't think of many other big transfers.

The ridiculous fees banded around in recent years are being used as a precedent by all selling clubs now, they all want miles in excess of their market value. I know there is increased tv money but it’s out of control. Just taking Maguire as an example, good player but £90m is a simply ridiculous valuation.

I’ve been amazed by the lack of activity by the top 6 clubs so far this summer, they seem to be in unison of not being held to ransom it.

Might see average prices come down soon enough.

Business has been a bit slower. Chelsea’s ban will obviously have a significant impact on the overall spend of the premier league. I’m sure it’ll break a billion once things get moving towards the end of the window.

Tbf leicester dont want to sell him, so why shouldn't they put an absurd fee on him

That has always been true though, so it doesn't really explain the sudden leap in fees.

yeah, Chelsea are worth 100mil most years I suppose to market.

city have spent a bit but not huge numbers of players.

Utd have not got their inflated fees over the line yet.

I'd expect the final number to be 1.2 bil still. something like that.

United have still to make their traditional £75m+ signing yet.

I would expect Liverpool and City to sign at least one more player. City havent replaced Big K yet.

Its certainly true at Spurs

posted on 26/7/19

I would expect Wolves to buy 3 or 4 players in the next fortnight as their contribution to the pot. I think the earlier closing of the transfer window is leading to even more happening at the last minute. The total spend will surely end up as more than £1b
