I agree.

And now is the time for Man Utd to walk away from what is a ridiculous deal, in my opinion.

Absolutely ridiculous fee set by Ricky Jervais aka Brendan Rodgers!
If Maguire wants to leave, he should hand in a transfer request and refuse to play.

Fine, happy with that, just stop trying to get him on the cheap and we'll have him for the season no problem.

I’m bored of player power. If he does that, we should reject all offers and fine him his full salary for breach of contract until he does.

He can train with the reserves during this time.

However, it helps no one for a player to do that and Maguire has been complimented for his professionalism and willingness to train and be part of the squad during the window. This should be applauded not criticised.

Players need to show respect to the club and fans that makes them very wealthy people to play the sport most of us would love to play. Maguire seems to be one of the few players that understands that.

I suppose this would go down well if a Spurs player did that?

Very boring saga, I agree. No idea why United are messing about, it's quite clear we're not budging on the 80 million valuation, so they need to pay the money or move on.

It will come to a point where unless the deal is done as soon as possible then we wont have time to reinvest the money into the squad without rushing round on dead line day etc, and we know our passed experiences with that!

Not really, like most people I'm assuming considering this transfer has apparently been happening for weeks but United wont meet the valuation Leicester have for the player.

Your Honour (U17603)

Well, if United have submitted an offer and it has been rejected, then neither of us know if there is anyone 'messing around'.

It's fair to say that clubs use the media to stoke fires, but it's also true that the media do the same without any basis.

It's a quiet transfer window and for all we know, United had a big rejected and nothing else has happened.

posted on 30/7/19

It's also fair to say that Maguire's agent could easily be the one trying to instigate a move by using the media.

None of us know, so it's a bit unfair to have a dig at United.

What we know from the media
Man city man utd make enquiries,,
City say 80+
Both offer 60 😂
Both offer 60 + 10 add on,
City say 80
Msn City go away hoping to offer last minute bid of 60m 🤦‍♂️
Utd come back with 60m cash +15m if they make champions lge + get out of groups,

City are saying they probably won't make CL next season so 2yrs for balance of payments

Man city still hopeful of 60m bid 😂

I think its probably the add ons that are causing the problem
League positions
So many champions league appearances,
Is the 60 cash

Personally I think utd shot themselves in the foot paying 50m for a kid with little premier league exp,
Agree with the posts re time for a statement,
We have Harry, filbert fox & England, on our side, time to fix bayonets and draw a thin blue line in the sand

£90 million cash by Saturday night 8pm,
January the same price and buy out his contract(30m?) Offer closes 8pm day one of the window,

"What we know from the media"

Oxymoron?

For years now, this club has had a policy of not responding to media speculation, particularly with regard to transfers. They didn't do it with Mahrez and they're not doing it with Maguire. If they have set a "deadline" for the deal, it will have been communicated to Maguire's agent, who will have then passed the information on to interested parties.

The club do everything with precedent in mind. Send out a message now about Maguire? Then what about next summer when someone's sniffing around Maddison, say, and everyone goes "why haven't they put a statement out about him!? They did with Maguire!"

Meanwhile, they've no intention of selling Maguire for less than they value him because that's a vital part of the club's policy going forward - bringing on younger players and only selling them if they get a really big offer. Not going "ok, we'll accept £15m less because we can't take the pressure any more". Do that now with Maguire and again, it sets a precedent: Lose £15m now and they potentially lose £100m in the long run with other transfers. (And that's quite aside from the fact the club wants to keep hold of its best players regardless.)

Also, look at the precedent with Mahrez's behaviour. When he kicked off and started lingering around airports, he was left out until he sorted his head out, then given his place back when he'd spent enough time on the naughty step. The club looks like the parent, the bigger party, instead of the situation being two warring siblings. Precedent again. Maguire won't just be cast off to the reserves for a season.

Unless some quietly communicated deadline has been passed, the situation remains the same. If Man Utd stump up the cash then they can buy him. If not, they don't. With regard to Man Utd themselves, I can think of several reasons why they might delay for tactical negotiation reasons, but there are also several reasons why they shouldn't. Either way, the impression currently given is that the media and Maguire's agent want this to happen more than Ed Woodward.

Only if you've played your cards right.

If you over value him and can't do a deal, then he wants to leave, you may well lose out.

That's not a criticism and Spurs have done well with the approach you're describing in recent years, but this idea that the value your club has placed on him is the only acceptable figure is a bit odd, because it's just a figure plucked out of the air from what I can gather.

To be clear Dunge, I was suggesting this statement is issued to Utd privately and nothing else.

Winston - if we are to believe Utd want the player, which I think there is strong evidence to suggest you do, then you are messing about.

If, in the unlikely event you’re not actually interested and this is all just a made up media story, I apologise for suggesting Utd are messing around.

As Dungeon states, these could all be negotiating stances (just look at Brexit!!). But if that’s the case, my negotiating stance at Leicester would be £80m by the weekend or no. And no until next summer.

If United have made a bid and it has been rejected, and there has been no other contact, how is that messing about?

You're making some massive assumptions imo.

"it's just a figure plucked out of the air from what I can gather."

--------

It is a little bit finger in the air, but there is logic behind it. It's a "go away" figure. The club don't want to sell him, but they also don't want to make it impossible for a Leicester player to leave. Just very difficult and only if the buying club really rate them. Plus a bit extra because Man Utd look desperate for new players and a new squad.

But again, it's precedent - While the aim is to bring on young players, we don't want to be known just as that, just as a welling club. Our ambition is to break the top 6 this season. If we keep Maguire, I'm happy. If we sell for £90m, we get a big wad of money. BlackStarr would sell for £70m, perhaps even less. I wouldn't.

posted on 30/7/19

*selling club. Not a welling club. I've no idea what a welling club would be, but I imagine them hurling wellies over a high-jump bar during training.

And that's absolutely fine.

I'm just saying that if you've priced clubs out of the transfer but Maguire wants to leave, you may well find yourself with a depreciating asset in the next two years.

It's all a game of cat & mouse, and so dependent on results on the pitch, that it's difficult to every really know who has made the right decision.

Definitely
Maguire has a bad season he's £60 million next July,
7th £80m+
Leicester get europa £90m+
Champions league £120m+
It's a gamble for everyone

posted on 30/7/19

No offence, but I wouldn't be too concerned about the gamble of his price going up.

United are desperate, bleed them for every penny you can. Be absolute caants to them so they don’t want to deal with you again and consider it too much work to buy one of your players - it’s the Levy philosophy
