The CL final masked the fact we went another season trophyless and just about scraped into the top 4. The objective as well as top 4, as it has been for the past few seasons now, is to start adding silverware. None more so than this coming season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst building a stadium
Whilst playing at Wembley
Whilst suffering crippling injuries
Whilst not adding anyone to the squad
There were many factors that contributed to us only achieving Top 4 and a UCL final & Carabo Cup SF last season.
We all know the squad needs improving in some areas but the underlying quality is 100% there
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have some very good players and an excellent manager and that's why we overachieved last season in the way that we did. So it's a good season when you look at it like that, but aren't we past the stage now when we look at just making top 4 as a good season? We've got to various finals and semi finals and we don't win anything still. A lot of that comes down to not showing the ambition in the transfer window to make it that much better to win the things. So it's no point including not spending anything as a
reason when that was part of the problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gotta say i loved last season.
I can see that really bad injuries and the deteriorating wembley situation hampered us as the season went on. Once the title was gone, there was a change in focus, probably subconsciously.
I can see that with a bit more quality in the squad (& a bit of luck) we can be more competitive at the sharp end of the season having had the ability to rest and rotatate and keep players fresher throughout. Many criticise Eriksens form but actually he played so much football and its hard to tell whether he was mentally & physically jaded or just didnt giveafeck.
Couple more added to the squad and some luck with injuries and we will have a very decent squad. Think we may rely on City/LFC not hitting the mid-90 points but can be there or thereabouts.
Comments here show there are people on ja606 would love it if Spurs "lost" their manager and didn't finish in the top 4...

Doubt Liverpool fans would like it quite so much if he quit Spurs and went to United..... With the financial backing they would give him, they'd be a force again in no time
This is great from Poch IMO.
I think the fans should help him out and perhaps do a small protest or some banners to crank up the pressure maybe?
Nothing major that could disrupt the season.

You are European champions ffs mate. You hardly need much do you ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we beat them 1-0 would you be saying the same thing?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we didn’t beat them mateSpurs never win finals so complete pointless statement. Do I think Spurs need much more investment in the squad than Liverpool ? 100%. Us winning the CL would of been unreal, but it wouldn’t of changed the fact this team needs strengthening. Liverpool can afford if they want to be a lot more easy going this window because their team and squad is good enough to compete on all levels, Spurs team isn’t mate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we would've been European champions so clearly we wouldn't need much also.
Fine margins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But reality is we weren’t mate. If we would of won the CL, it wouldn’t of been because we are a better side than Liverpool dude. Everyone can see clearly Liverpool are miles ahead of us. Had we won the CL, it would of been because we turned up on the day. Spurs would of still needed to strengthen wether we won the CL or not. The fact that we won nothing once again just adds to the frustration of it all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Disagree. They were miles ahead of us last season but I don't think the gap in reality is as big as that.

Well I can’t agree with that mate. Liverpool have the quality to win the CL and mount a serious title challenge at the same time. They won the CL. We can talk about how close we were all we want, the reality is the team failed when it truly mattered. We are nowhere near Liverpool or City and will continue to be nowhere near if the club doesn’t purchase the players required
I think we're near. Frustratingly so. A new RB and Zaha and we'd be there. New RB, Zaha and Dybala and we'd run City close.

What world do you live in.
What clubs have finished their business? Even city might lose Sane and will need to replace him. Liverpool have signed no one but kids. United have 1 signing and need another 3 or 4. Arsenal have someone on loan and another kid, .
We got our key signing in. We can easily start the season with what we have which is pretty much what we ended the season with, and those who are added further can adapt and be integrated. Sure it would have been nice to have 3 or 4 in on 1st July but that never ever happens, even for those who can just thrown money at it, like United.

Why are you looking to offload Rose?
Is it because it's the last chance to make money form his sale, because he is asking to leave or what? He was brilliant at the end of last season.
God knows....Rose, Eriksen & Toby should all just offered new deal on proper money and half our problems disappear. Then just go sign a decent right back, sell Aurier, Sell Wanyama and see if theres a last minute deal thats worth taking a punt on... Back up striker or young upcoming midfielder

The world of being a Spurs fan where this is a regular theme for us.
The circumstances for City and Liverpool are different as you know, because they've already spent big in getting their teams to where they want them to be and have collected trophies from it. Liverpool got all their deals done by this point last summer, and I don't think City have had to spend anything after July since Pep arrived, except when he first came in which is fair enough.
We on the other hand didn't win anything and we just about scraped through top 4, suffered many injuries and lost, was it 18 games? Ndombele aside we're still being slow to get business done and haven't got the excuse of the new stadium being a distraction anymore.
If you are ok with that, fine, I expected better. If we get our remaining targets done then I'll be happy but if I was to score our window out of 10 I'd always have to mark it down for the time taken to complete business.

Kane is just a special 1 in a 1000 sort of player. Poch can only do so much to get stuff out of a player but it mostly comes down to their own personality. Unfortunately not everyone has the potential as they don't have that personality to begin with. Hopefully one of these guys has it. I was pleased to hear Foyth cut his honeymoon short to get back to train with us for a start. That's a good sign that he has that sort of personality.
Nothing major that could disrupt the season.

It was then put to Pochettino at full-time that Lamela had looked ‘very sharp’, but the Tottenham boss seemed to be angered by the comment.
"I think you cannot judge the players,” he said. “You need to ask if I am here like a manager which is my opinion about the game from individual player or collective. If you give me your opinion, I cannot say nothing if I am not agree with you.
“My job is to judge my team and players, but if your question is giving your opinion about how you see Lamela, I think I cannot change your mind if you believe a few minutes before that Lamela was good. If you believe he was good that's your opinion and I've got to accept your opinion.”

Lets judge at the end of window. A week on Thursday!

Well I'm already disappointed we're going into the last week with still things to do. So we might make some signings and that'll be good but it won't change the fact we'll have left it late again.

I'd have serious concerns about full backs if I was a spurs fan.

Pochettino expected to pull a few more Rabbits out of the hat and produce another Kane or Dele on limited resources, this appears to be the story with Kwp, Georgio, Foyth and Parrot all likely to be in the 1st team squad this season
