We're also not going to spend £60m on a CM that isn't a nailed-on starter
________
Why not? Spent 52m last year on one.
Anyway, absolute sharticle.

9: striker
10: in the hole
Those are the two positions he most predominantly picks up and is best suited to being in due to his passing and finishing
I haven't seen him play as many as some Portugese league viewers on here admittedly, but I've never seen him taking up the number 9 role.

I have read, watched and listened to alot about him. Tifo football which is an incredibly detailed podcast/Youtube channel have covered him alot.
The consensus on all of those sources is the points I've made, hence the article.
Ole wants Pogba to be playing further back anyway
So it would be more like this
Mc T Pogba
Fernandes
Whether Pogba has the discipline I dunno
I thought he was a B2B midfielder who plays on the right side of a midfield 3?

Scroll down half way on that, there's a heat map of all his touches last season.
If he's a number 9 then he's shiyte at it. Barely in the box ffs.

The times i've seen him play, he has been an AMF.
I do agree that him and Pogba would potentially be too attacking in the big games... But maybe if McT is on fire, it will allow Pogba to play like he does in the French team.

Like saying scholes should be a 9 due to his finishing and passing. Watch a game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not even remotely the point im making at all. Scholes was exceptional at passing and dictating a game and also was a fantastic striker of the ball - an all time great.
Bruno is far far better in the final third than anything else. He's also very good at striking from range. He's not an out and out nine but he drifts between a 9 and a 10

That would make some sense if I hadn't lived in Portugal for 11 years and have a place out there where I stay 6-8 weeks a year. High five for trying though.
Ole has been playing 4-2-3-1 in pre-season with Pogba a bit deeper (like he does for France). So you can see why he might be interested in a more offensive CM like Fernandes.
And there are also plenty of examples of more attacking oriented midfielders who possess a good all round game changing their roles over time. Modric is a good example. A #10 at Dinamo Zagreb, played 10, from the left and then CM at Spurs and has over the last 7 or 8 years established himself as one of the best CM players in the world.
Eriksen is another who in his younger days was very much a CAM, but who now plays different roles in midfield and is effective playing deeper as he can get on the ball and orchestrate.
Fernandes has similar attributes - good vision, technique and intelligence, but is also mobile and hard working. From what I've seen, he's not a passenger type CAM who can only play that role. He played on the left against Liverpool recently and got a goal and assist. I think he'd be a very good signing that would help us control games a bit better and also offer some cutting edge from midfield.
"We're also not going to spend £60m on a CM that isn't a nailed-on starter"
Why not? You paid £50M for Fred and he wouldn't even start for Everton.

He is not a box-to-box player.
He is a proper number eight - an attacking midfielder - who occasionally goes roaming for the ball *when Sporting are in possession* but who is in the side to create and score. He’s not a defensive player.
He’s Pogba, but on the right side.
You play Pogba and Fernandes in the same side if you can dominate possession, and you have incredibly hardworking fullbacks, a super mobile world-class DM, and two world-class centrebacks.
Otherwise, as the OP has stated correctly, you will be on the end of serious raaaaapings.

Some really valid points here tbf. I’d be concerned with Pogba playing in a deeper role personally. I think he gets away with it because he’s got Kante who’s the worlds best at shielding the back four, the lads like having two players in that role (apologies for the cliche).
McT is a good playing but not half as good as Kante at that and I think we’d have a very fragile centre with them two at the base. Matic as we all know isn’t mobile enough either.
You’ve also got the problem that Pogba is best going forwards and creating chances, which this hinders too.
Personally I’d rather have Pogba in the left of a mid 3 with a license to get forward as he did for Juve and a more dynamic midfielder next to him like Gundogan or someone like that as a mid 3
