At 32 his best days are behind him and he still has mistakes in his game. He will improve Arsenal compared to the jokers they have at CB and he'll add leadership qualities that they lack. It's a good short term move for them. You guys have some good defenders in the side so it might be better to get him out now and give the others their chance to cement a first team position.
A lot of people seem to be underestimating Chelsea due to Lampard and the transfer ban. I think its going to be a tight race between You, US, Arsenal and Spurs for the CL places (3rd and 4th). You have some very good prospects that will get a chance and experienced players as well, who may not be their best now but will help the younger players. Something we are lacking a bit at United.
Schitty from Luiz, he's close to a Chelsea legend to join Arsenal would wipe that out surely.
Agent Luiz will destroy Arsenal from the inside
Management book rule no.1 - go into the gaff, slaughter a sacrificial lamb and show them you're boss.
The sacrificial lamb was Luiz and he probably worked out he was not apart of his future plans, plus it was probs a more friendly relationship as they played together which Lampard would have needed to draw the line against.
Frank has shown who the main man is,and well done Frank,we might wobble a bit at times this season with our younger team, but I'm certain it's the right decision in the long run.
....maybe AC will come into himself a bit more now,I mean mental fortitude and balance.
My guess (and it is only a guess) is that Lampard (being a diligent, hard working, dedicated individual that he is has stressed to him that he needs to pay more attention to the defensive side of his game and maybe Luiz has taken exception to that.
I have always liked Luiz, but it is a qualified like, I think that he is a hugely talented Footballer with the ball, but IMO he can be lazy, casual and indisciplined without it and I can imagine that Frank would have wanted him to knuckle down and to tighten that up. The goal that Newcastle scored against us away last year was a good example of where Luiz can be less than diligent with his defensive duties.
The good news in all this is that just having re-signed if we do have to sell him Arsenal will have to pay top dollar to get him. I can see Marina driving a hard bargain there.
I think he'll look worse for Arsenal than he does for you.
Summer I wish I had your faith in the price we get for him. I think he will go cheaper than what we paid for Giroud which is astounding considering he just signed a two year contract

Nah £8m agreed Summer
But without the new contract he signed it could have been 0 so at least we got something
Bov, I've just seen that we've agreed 8 mill, which if true did surprise me, but maybe the Club think he's a bad influence and just want rid as quickly as possible. One thing we all know is Marina doesn't take any prisoners when getting the best deal.
I've said before that I personally think he's too ill disciplined to be a top drawer defender and I've never been a great fan of him as a footballer because of it.
In my opinion his biggest positive was his infectious personality and so called image as Mr Chelsea. Now the vanish has been stripped away on that one and revealed as a sham I don't see any great advantage of keeping him.
Personally I believe if Frank has cause for concern over him, then we should remove the bad apple from the barrel - lets not forget he's allegedly got form for being disruptive under Conte.
To those that say, we'll end up shipping more goals this season without him, I'd say we've been shipping far too many goals in pre-season against average opposition with him anyway!
My biggest grievance about it, is selling him to a club I detest.

First of all, 8 million for a 32 year old defender past his best is not as bad as it may seem, especially when you take into account his wages and how these types of players can become toxic in the dressing room if they are not picked.
Second, whilst Luiz is an exceptional footballing talent, he's a pretty average defender. Both Zouma and Rudiger are superior to him defensively, and I believe Cristensen is too and he has the ability to bring the ball out (although not as well). Luiz lacks the discipline to play defensive midfield too. So for a structured team like ours, he is a bit of a luxury despite his undoubted technical ability and vision.
Third, a football squad is a numbers game. A 32 year old Brazilian who is not going to be first choice or Tomori, a young home-grown English player, HAPPY to act as cover? Lower wages, more hunger and with scope for development. A no brainer.
So my conclusion is that I like Luiz, but losing him does not make us weaker and I don't think he will make Arsenal defensively better either. As long as Lampard doesn't want him, good business.

I wouldn't disagree with most of what you said Eric. Whilst in my opinion he's not as good as Zouma defensively he does give us a little edge in playing the ball out. Rudiger is undisputedly our best defender and hopefully if he's back sooner rather than later I don't think Luiz will be that big a miss.
A bit of a shame really because he is undoubtedly a good footballer, he doesn't have the mental application to match as far as I'm concerned.
Will he make Le Ar$e better? - Probably but that's more to do with their deficiencies in defence rather than Luiz's attributes!

It has been touched on, but Luiz is a wonderful looking footballer in terms of style, but he is not great in any particular position. With Arsenal's defence, needs must and they had to get someone.
BTW Blarms, are you still in Sydney for the coming season?
If so will you be going to the Aurora Hotel to watch any of the games?
I'm over for four weeks over Xmas and NY and might try and get over there for one of the matches!
Away feck I'm moving to Melbourne but in case my plans change I'll let you know
Sydney for NY would be worth it I'm sure. I was in Sunshine Coast this past NY

Hello GUNNER, my favourite Gooner - from a cast of one it has to be said though!
I think he will help you this season in defence but in all fairness that's not too difficult.
As you said, he's a Rolls Royce of a footballer on the outside with a with a 70's Skoda engine underneath!
If he could only show more consistency and application his career legacy could have been so much more than just being remembered as Sideshow Bob!
