If Scott Brown was being taunted repeatedly by large numbers of a crowd about the death of his sister, with the authorities doing nothing to stop them and his own teams supporters even trying to defend their actions by suggesting the opposition were simply trying to wind him up then people may have a point about the situation being comparable to Lukaku's. However they are very different.
He was abused by an individual whilst boarding a team bus. The subject of the abuse is simply disgusting and completely unacceptable from some lowlife cant. I've no doubt the comment was just as hurtful, certainly with the same spiteful intent, however it was ultimately the comment of an utter lowlife individual who you would hope will get what's coming to him and his words certainly wouldn't be condoned by those around him.
Now compare this to the racist abuse suffered by Lukaku. Imagine if Scott Brown was playing in front of an almost entirely black crowd and as one of the few white people in the entire stadium, he was subject to racist abuse by large members of the black crowd simply because he is white.
Now to give even more perspective, imagine Scott Browns family and children (who are also white) are at the game. How do you think he would feel, trying to play football whilst enduring a large number of black people hurl racist abuse at him simply because he was white, also in the knowledge that his family and children were in the crowd and could hear every word.
Furthermore, how do you think his family and children would feel? Watching and hearing the racist chants shouted from the crowd that are not only abusing him but are also abusing them. Simply because they are white.
Now put yourself in each of those players positions. Are people really suggesting that an individual tw@t making a comment about your deceased sister is worse then you and your family repeatedly being subject to racist abuse simply because of the colour of your skin?
To an extent you can probably shield your children from sick individual comments but how do you explain why you are being abused simply because of your skin? Also in the knowledge that unless things change, your children may well suffer the same abuse when they're older that you have had to endure. Not sure Scott Brown will lose too much sleep over his children being taunted about the death of their auntie when they grow up however for Lukaku the fear of his children suffering racist abuse is very real.
Ultimately how you feel is irrelevant - it doesn't qualify you to rank the two incidents being discussed in order of severity.
----------------------
what a load of tosh, im not advocating for one or the other just offering my opinion which u say is irrelevant, great debate tactics
I just think that verbal abuse about the colour of your skin is not (quite) as serious as verbal abuse regarding a sibling that has died.

Two problems with this:
1. That's just one opinion and can't be applied to other people.

That's not really the point is it Robb. We are talking about dealing with the abuse on a personal level.
...............
This is the way I see it.
Someone uses a death in my family to throw abuse they probably get a severe kicking at the very least.
Someone racially abuses me they probably just get a kicking.

Spoken like someone who knows absolutely nothing about racism

Yes you have.
You've accused me of saying something that I literally said the opposite of and because you're too immature to admit you made a mistake, you're just continuing with the same crap and hoping that people will believe you.
Absolutely pathetic.

"You have on this very thread disregarded the view of someone who has suffered racist abuse, and the loss of a loved one, and who has agreed with me that abuse regarding the loss of a loved one would be harder to deal with. Even though you were arguing earlier that you'd have to have been victim of such abuse in order to be able to comment on which was worse. You're a mess."
Lies, lies, lies.
You're a massive facking cant for making stuff up about this subject.
Disgusting.

Well, let’s see. You used my comment and then attributed an insult to the person who said that comment
Classic VC, not owning up to his own insulting ways

Racist abuse is to some extent water of a duck's back. The people abusing you don't deserve your attention. They are utter morons who's opinion shouldn't matter to you.
But if someone is mocking the death of a loved one, that is much more personal to me. Not sure how you can ignore that.
