Tbh maybe you're in need of trying a new genre of games. Maybe try out something strategy based. A little challenge of the mind goes a long way towards satisfaction.
I didn't even buy into this generation as nothing particularly appealed to me.
If you're going back to the PS2 I highly recommend getting a PS2 component cable to stick in the back of a modern TV. Makes the image so much sharper - the likes of Gran Turismo 4 is still very playable.
Which level were you stuck on in tomb raider?

Palace Midas , that was a facker .
Favourite games of this gen are
Doom
God of War
The rest have been pretty meh tbh
So looking forward to the new Doom though.
By the way if you ever play doom, you have to play it on nightmare mode, it's just insane... If you like a challenge
I do agree with article though.
I've been playing wow classic on the PC, fack that is a throwback to the college days.... 2004 wow came out originally
I gotta say.. i am hooked on Apex Legends.
I thought my FPS days were over. hadn't played one for a few years.. Battlefront doesn't count as one.
But my friends pestered me, and they are Pro Evo guys!
But gave it a try, and wow.... really enjoying meself in this world.
Season 3 about to drop in about 10 days! get in!

There’s a lot of good indie games about at the minute on the current platforms. I don’t think it’s been anywhere near as good for games in general as previous ones though, a few gems aside.
The problem is, If you have been gaming for a while. there is little that is new. All games are based around familiar patterns. So games from the past are essentially games of the future, with better graphics.
You mention Tomb Raider and have fond memories of the past, and you are enjoying reliving those. I work at a school and can guarantee, kids with no ties to the past will be drawn to the newer shinier version.
This is why I'm drawn to VR, It is something different., it offers something new, and for me it's potential going forward is huge.
This gen has been pretty good (PS4 at least) but you probably need to be a less seasoned gamer to truly appreciate it.

100% exactly what i think
that's one of the reasons I'm stuck with just buying games of topics that interest me now
like Fifa
like the last of us
like the walking dead
like UFC (which is dogshat but I can't not buy it)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I'm pretty hard-core , I own about 220 ps1 games and about 50 ps2 games.
I think whats being discussed above. We are lacking any really wow moments because we have seen them all. GTA V is amazing and when you sit on the mountain and see the vista its cool.......but then you remember you done it in GTA 3 from somewhere and that this is just a prettier version. The new Tomb Raider is amazing but you know what really wowed you was when you fought that T rex for the first time in the original Lara Craft outing.
So its not that its boring per se just that there arent really stand out moments anymore.....or far fewer to the time when everything was new
I've never really got into RPG , I'm thinking of giving it ago any recommendations ?, I've done all the Dark Soul games and Bloodbourne, any classics for ps1 ?
Currently playing Alice: Madness Returns on PS3 and FF8 also on PS3. FF8 is obviously a long, long game but being able to dip in and out is a benefit and in the 6 weeks or so since I started am around the 70 hour mark.
PS4 I have games that I've started such as Detroit and Spiderman but knowing how vast they are I want to set aside time properly. My lad is playing No Man's Sky and also want to give that a proper go but same reasons/issues as the other games mentioned.
Excited for Death Stranding which will be a Christmas buy then FFVII remake in March. Tempted to buy PES but then wouldn't play anything else for ages.
I could never get with FFVIII. Loved VII & IX so it's a mystery how they managed to make 8 such a dud.
Didn't like the story, characters or mechanics. The draw & junction thing was so tedious and whilst level scaling is a neat idea, it was so severe it made levelling up a negative thing for your characters.
Most battles were me just using my guardian force and wiping the floor with enemies, until the point I got utterly pummelled by the T-Rex and quit.
Yes, before I bought PS4 I knew I'd be waiting for RDR2 (amazing game) and TLOU Part 2, but the biggest surprises have been remakes from other consoles
Plus Sony shot themselves in the foot by requiring PS+ to play online, could've killed Xbox dead
