Wouldn't that just devalue it completely?
British cup would be fun I reckon
Likely finalists of the Race cup. Whites v blacks:
--------------Allison--------------------
Kimmich----------Laporte--------De Ligt-----Robertson
----De Bruyne---De Jong-----------Silva
Messi---------Lewandowski----Ronaldo
Sterling----------Mbappe-------Neymar
------Pogba----------Kante---------Matuidi
Mendy-----Van Dijk-----Koulibaly-----TAA
-----------Onana (what’s my name?)
WHO WINS?
The managers for that game would be hilarious.
Pep enjoying the occasion from the dugout as Klopp, Pochettino, Mourinho, Conte, Zidane, Allegri, etc... look enviously from the stands as Chris Hughton leads the black team
I object to Ronaldo being in the white team. He is oak coloured.

i guess, but it makes the schedule for those teams slightly better, allows someone else to win it for once though

Pointless mickey mouse pot for my money...gets you nothing in Europe
Obviously the glow of winning it in 08 still burns bright in a certain North London establishment...so let's not Diss it completely
Awful competition. Get rid.
A British Cup:-
You may get the likes of Celtic and Rangers bringing over 100,000 fans to places like Port Vale and Crawley.
Operational nightmare
Im pretty sure 100,000 Celtic fans wouldn't fancy a trip to Port Vale on a Tuesday night...
Remove the league cup and the opportunity for clubs to win a trophy just slips further away.
If you're a fan of Everton, Wolves etc. - and I mean no disrespect - what is the fecking point?
Big clubs with absolutely no chance of winning the league before a ball is kicked. Sad times.

=======
If they wanted to win it they would pick their best XI though.
They have an equal chance of winning the FA Cup, but again often rotate for that.

Fair point.
The question is, I guess, if the League Cup wasn't there would your Evertons and Wolves take the FA Cup more seriously?

PL is always the priority for those clubs. Prize money in the league cup is peanuts compared to final league position, tv deals, etc...
Big clubs playing reserve and fringe players kind of makes it more of an even playing field (hence the regular upsets).
PLUS, the league starts during the CL group stage, when we're 6 games into the PL, groups stages in Europa, Int. qualifiers... Teams have to rest their best players to have any hope of completing elsewhere.

No PL team is that bad that will lose to Millwall if they were taking it seriously.
I think you should change the first sentence of the article. Just say the big 7.
I think the League Cup serves its purpose. Gives small clubs some attractive games in the early stages and bigger clubs take it seriously in the latter stages. Not sure I would go along with the view that because teams field a lot of fringe players it’s because they don’t want to win. It’s to give the wider squad some game time and means fielding fresh players rather than ones that might benefit from a break from twice weekly games. I think most managers and fans would still be disappointed if the team they send out don’t beat lower division opposition

But I meant Wolves not Villa.
the league cup would be already dead if
a) the football league on 1992 had thrown prem teams out
b) if UEFA had insisted it had no european place.
right now arsenal tried theor best to kill it when at their peal but chelsea and city billions mean they want to.win it all.
if city win it again and look like winning it 5 or 6 in a row itll die

Pitch invasions at Crawley and Colchester after their penalty shoot out wins tonight. Why deprive clubs like that of these moments by getting shot of this competition?
