I mentioned 3.
Also we need a race cup.
The cricket world cup was spot on. So much better to have the best teams competing than the previous where you got the odd shock but the tournament dragged on and on.
To grow the game it's better to have the lesser nations play each other. Don't follow rugby but I am guessing the leaser nation players aren't actually from that country just ex pats who have a link. In cricket, Afghanistan have improved as there is a genuine interest in the country and they play their own.
The last Euros were rubbish as they diluted it so much. Teams like Northern Ireland making the last 16 and just defend was so dull. No doubt the diluted world cup will make for a poorer tournament.
Much less chance of an upset in Rugby than most sports for some reason.
Yeah as I think someone mentioned earlier you have teams like England who have barely any actual English players playing at the football world cup and are canon fodder for the big teams. How long before they start trying to buy the world cup like they have done in domestic football? Money talks. And England had plenty with no talent so are most likely to take this approach

The gulf differences are even worse than football. Suprised USA aren't more competitive given Rugby is similar to there national sport.

Well they've been at Soccer a while now...they ain't got that right yet - mind you Gridiron is a ridiculous sham of a sport given the protective gear they wear
Lol American Football's idea of tackling is diving at where the running player was a few seconds ago
Gridiron is more about hitting than tackling, hence the pads.

I’ve never followed this line of thinking. It’s facking dangerous, nothing wrong with protective gear.

On a par with test cricket for suicide inducing boredom as spectators sport..
I don't agree with the World Cup expanding, but I took a look anyway at who benefits from this expansion.
CAF (Africa): 9 slots - African teams have been underperforming massively in the last two WCs. So I can't see the benefit of more teams plus the traditional African powerhouses.
AFC (Asia): 8 slots - Same as above really, but could be on an even worse scale.
UEFA (Europe): 16 slots - More mid-tier European countries like Bosnia, Norway and Austria might make an impact.
CONCACAF (North and Central America and Caribbean): 6 slots - I believe the USA, Mexico and Canada will get spots anyway as hosts. So Honduras, Costa Rica and Trinidad maybe? Not that bad really.
OFC (Oceania): 1 slot - New Zealand. Probably hold their own, but go out in groups. Though if Tahiti or Solomon Islands sneaked through it would be brutal.
CONMEBOL (South America): 6 slots - I think all teams from this region can hold their own.
Playoff: 2 slots - Not been decided how the play-off spots will be distributed.
It has always been slightly unfair on South America, so as you say it is a positive move to give them more spaces.
Asia is a difficult one because there are a few teams growing behind the usual suspects of Japan, South Korea and Australia. Iran have half decent teams at times (and are the highest ranked at the moment I believe), Qatar won the Asia Cup and didn't embarrass themselves in the Copa America, China are trying to grow the popularity of the sport. Then you have the likes of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iraq, Uzbekistan. I don't think they have 8 competitive teams for the World Cup yet, but I feel they have a slight edge on Africa at the moment.
The recent powerhouses of African football, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, have fallen away, and the general standard seems to be lower than a few years back when you genuinely felt it was only a matter of time before an African country made the semi finals of a World Cup.
Japan have a great chance to get to the latter stages of the finals in Qatar and probably winning it. Takefusa Kubo is admired here in Yokohama and will be the star of the tournament imo. Favourites? possibly not, dark horses? yes, potential winners? certainly.
rugby's great, some of the footballers probably fall into a coma just watching the type of hits those lads get up from

Absolutely ludicrous comment to make, foolish and unreasonable. Do you really believe that?!, I think hosting the rugby WC has gone to your head!
