Did you honestly think our goal should gave been disallowed? He failed to control the ball and took a dive.

As much as I would have liked a foul to be given, I dont think it was a foul on Origi to be fair.
There might have been the slightest contact on the inside of his left knee, possibly, but he went down clutching his calf, so no, no foul for me.
------

Exactly. There might have been the faintest of contact but no way near enough to make him go down. He lost control of the ball and try to buy the free kick. Fortunately for us the officials weren't as naive as Robb.

Deffo some positives today. But they’re only really lashing positives if we can raise our game against the teams around us in the next few weeks. Otherwise it’s just a case of us being better because it was Liverpool rather than a sign of things to come

I thought United were good 1st half but once 60 minutes cane they seemed to try and just hold what they had which was strange as weren’t playing well and a second for them kills the game
Though both VAR were correct and a fair result in the end
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think there were a number of players visibly tiring and with a lack of any real quality to bring off the bench, we were better off sticking with what we had. We couldn't maintain what we did in the first half all game.

Had we a couple of half decent midfielders to bring off the bench it might have been a different story. But hey ho.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Said it to my United mate I was watching the game with I thought you’d tore 2nd half after the effort put in the first
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, was totally inevitable.

Sitting back was the only way we would get through that game. Unfortunately one really poor piece of defending let us down again. It's a shame because as a defensive unit we are really not that bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Must be frustrating though to play that way against us in comparison to some of the other performances this season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To an extent. But I said right after the Chelsea game that the way this team is set up, we'll probably do alright against the big 6. It's the smaller teams that see going to give us problems.

Give this lot some space and they can actually play a bit. They just have no idea how to break down a packed defence.

where is United's next PL win coming from.

Seriously

Hopefully we won't see the 4-2-3-1 next match. The 3-5-2 suits us atm. If Ole employs his usual tactics next match - I just give up on the man. Surely he can't make the same mistakes over and over and over and keep his job here?

Origi made a meal of it but it was a blatant foul, you see several of them given virtually every game. He came in from behind, made contact with the player and didn’t get the ball.

I don’t think it should be a foul, but as the rules are it’s as clear as day. I can’t see why it’s even up for debate.

really?

Got Pukki in my FL team.

Definite foul, for me and the referee was right there looking at it. Pathetic dive however and I can see how that might annoy a referee and convince him not to give it.

To answer the OP on Mane - he was put on the right as Salah was injured and Origi works better off the left, whilst Mane played on the right before he came to Liverpool and in his first season before we signed Salah.

I'd have just done a straight swap with Shaqiri for Salah but it's clear the manager doesnt fancy him, that much. He mustn't be putting the work in, in training and he certainly hasn't put the work in when he has played, which is the fear many of us on here had when we signed him.

I actually sort of agree to an extent

Though with our goal, it probably is a foul, a very very very soft foul though.

For one the leg he makes contact with isn’t his standing leg, making his dive to the floor that more cringeworthy. It’s also the sort of contact that wouldn’t put down a 5 year old, let alone a grown man. Hence why I can see why they didn’t rule out the goal.

For the last 20-30 mins, the game was one way. Before then, United played their hearts out and stopped us. Our midfield, normally very strong, had their hardest game of the season.

We weren't into 'headless chicken' land, but we weren't far away from it.

I thought Pereira was rubbish tbh. Every time we tried to attack, which admittedly only happened in the first half, it broke down around him.

James was our motm imo. Rashford did well too. Maguire didn't put a foot wrong, AWB likewise.

Yet according to the rules it’s a foul, and we see several given every single game....

Yeah I said it probably was a foul, I’d just find it embarrassing to go down from that sort of thing.

That’s the modern player though.

I agree, I said above that it shouldn’t be a foul. Trouble is, the decision making by the refs has become so poor players feel they have to exaggerate otherwise they don’t get the decision. They have a point..... If VAR was used properly then it would remove the need for this, but until they remove this ridiculous ‘clear and obvious error’ rule, and use VAR to assist rather than hinder refs then things will never improve.

It was a foul. The issue is that yet again VAR don't want to overrule a ref. I've ranted about this at infinitatum. VAR don't want to overrule a ref and that's why the goal stood. We benefitted today and I'm delighted at that, but it's still a very flawed system

Feck me you’re less than a Liverpool fan than our Robert.

Never a free kick like you said and we’re not playing basketball like Ole said. He literally touched his knee with the slightest of touches. Never a foul in a million years. He probably didn’t even feel it considering he was clutching his lower leg.
