They do it every season, win a few games on the bounce and lose a lot. Each season they have relied on three other worse teams. This year its tight and hopefully they'll get found out and go down. They get 11k crowds and yet no one ever calls them a small club!
Good riddance and I'll have a good at Phil Billing.

They wanted to pay £80 million to find out.
With Bournemouth, I just think they’ve been in bad form before, Howe has seen them through before, and they have enough ability in their squad to pull themselves out of trouble.
Although I do think it’s time for Howe to move on if he has any real ambition.
Move where though? The top clubs won’t touch him because there are too many question marks. Clubs like Everton seem to now want big name proven managers who have done it elsewhere, Spurs wouldn’t have him, neither would Arsenal.
I think 2 or 3 years ago when he was fashionable and people thought he was a management genius he had options open - now he looks totally out of ideas and bang in trouble, I don’t think he really has any
Well, I guess it may be that he's missed the boat. I still think there are several clubs out there that could/should have gambled on him. Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, even ourselves had Rodgers not been available. I take your point that those clubs want bigger names and that is a practical block to him. But if I was in charge of Spurs or Arsenal my biggest concern would be that each squad needs a rebuild (in Arsenal's case a massive one) and I'd be looking for someone to start a new era with an exciting brand of football. Howe would be high up my list to do that, regardless of the question marks.
I couldn’t disagree more. The last thing you need if you’re Spurs right now is to take a gamble on a manager who has no track record outside of one club - a club he’s beginning to fail with by the way. The reason Howe has been getting away with slowly taking Bournemouth backwards over the last year is because of his brand of football.
If I were Spurs I’d be looking at someone who has management experience at top level - Tuchel for example. I think Howe is slowly getting found out the same way Dyche has. Decent managers but actually both quite limited
It’s harsh in my opinion to judge managers as limited when they are working with limited resources.
Dyche and Howe have both made the best of the resources they’ve had and over achieved at their respective jobs. That’s over achieved not under.
How do we know whether Howe and Dyche would have stuck fool hardy to their formula with more resources. More relevant to Dyche who has set up Burnley to be efficient. Howe has always been more expansive.
Rodgers was accused of only having a plan A at Celtic. At Leicester he seems to have a plan for every letter of the alphabet! Some a bit confusing mind.
So I agree Howe and Dyche look limited, but out of the two Howe looks to me like a progressive manager that could do well at a club looking to build back to solid top 4 credentials.
I would have to say that Eddie Howe has a lot more resources at his disposal than Dyche does. Bournemouth are a richer club than Burnley and have players that have been linked to top 4 clubs.
Howe needs to prove himself at a club with more resources first (before he’s even considered for a top 4 position) and as Dunge says, that boat may have sailed. There’s too many question marks over him for me. Pulis did an amazing job with Stoke but couldn’t kick them on. Pearson did an amazing job with Leicester, but wouldn’t have taken us to the next level in my view. Howe has the same question mark and he’s taking Bournemouth right into trouble
I could see Howe going to Crystal Palace, he plays the sort of expansive football that Palace like and I’m not sure how many more seasons Roy will stay, particularly if Zaha is sold.
^
I find it difficult to see Palace as anything other than cloggers, quite the opposite of expansive football.
Maybe part of the problem for Howe is that clubs if a stature between where Bournemouth are at present and the genuine top clubs are few and far between. And those that arguably are are generally nowhere near as well run as Bournemouth.
I do think he's done an very good job there though. If I had one main criticism, it would be that he's never taken them on a serious cup run. Simply "staying in the Premier League" as your sole ambition eventually grows stale, as many teams have found to their cost over the years. You have to be looking to achieve something more on occasion, whether that be European football or a domestic trophy. In their time in this league, Howe's Bournemouth have always looked at their best when they're threatened by relegation, then they stop once their heads have bobbed up into the top half of the table.
Palace would be a good fit - they have talented players like Zaha and errrr Schlupp and that would be a perfect test for him. Could he take a team like Palace and do what Rodgers is doing with Leicester? Or as I suspect, would he get them playing great football but hovering around 10th?
When did Palace become a biggish club with a reputation for expansive football?
Have I somehow skipped a decade?
I think with Howe there is a little bit of truth in both sides of the argument. He’s done a great job with Bournemouth, got them promoted and, for the most part, they’ve survived relatively easily. He’s done all this playing decent football rather than ‘surviving’ like a Pulis, Dyche or Allardyce team would. Bournemouth have also struggled with a lot of injuries this season, which could partially explain their current decline.
The balance is as people have said. Bournemouth often do well before falling again. They seem to get a nose bleed when they hit the top ten. They’ve actually made some pretty poor, expensive, signings like Ibe and Solanke. Bournemouth might be a small club in terms of stadium capacity and history, but they’ve actually been well supported by rich owners so should expect to be around mid table. It will be interesting to see if Howe can turn it around this time.
If he can then he might keep his credibility. Then I agree with others that he should try and move because we’ll never really know how good he is until he proves he can do it elsewhere.

They call it the Palace way
The only thing I regard as "The Palace Way" is keeping the Queen's offspring away from TV interviews.
I may have been a bit over generous with expansive. But they typically play a back four with proper wide players (that was my grasping at straws expansive bit) and try and move the ball quickly forward. The only time they’ve really deviated is under De Boer who tries to move them to a slower build up play.
We'll see where Bournemouth are at the end of the season. So far Howe has done a fantastic job getting a tiny club from being at danger of dropping out of the football league when he initially took over to being sustained in the Premier League, I don't see anything to criticise there at all. At least not yet.
Ditto Dyche, he's done a fantastic job at Burnley.
Both achieved this on limited resources, but I'd agree that Howe would seem to have more potential to do well at a 'bigger' club.
Unfortunately for them, they are both English and therefore deemed to be useless and not worth considering as possible candidates to manage 'big' clubs with top six aspirations.
I wonder whether anyone has made a tentative approach toward Eddie Howe only to be rebuffed, privately and behind the scenes, with an explanation that he has no wish to leave Bournemouth. You'd think that someone would have inquired, even if it's a team more on a Southampton type level than an Arsenal one.

They didn’t but that doesn’t matter. Howe needs to test his metal somewhere else. The likes of Everton, Arsenal and Spurs won’t touch him because they feel he’s unproven. Therefore can he go to a middle of the table established club, bring his expansive football and make them a top 6 club? If he does that then he’s proven me wrong and earned a chance at a big club

Howe does not have limited resources like Dyche does. To compare both clubs in that way is just incorrect. Bournemouth are a much richer club than Burnley and Howe has had much more quality at his disposal than Dyche has ever had. That’s not even debatable
Being English gives them the advantage of being hyped way beyond belief and touted as future England managers within their first 2 seasons. Both managers have been ludricously praised beyond belief - Dyche at one point tipped for Everton and Howe for Arsenal and Spurs

Fact is Dunge, the rest of the premier league just aren’t that convinced by him
Bournemouth have been in the bottom 5 for worst defences each season they've been up, even when they finished 9th. Howe seems incapable of managing them to defend well. His stock has fallen a lot, and I say that as someone who would have been happy for him to take over Poch about 3 seasons ago.

Good post - he gets away with setting up his defence so poorly because of his style of football. Basically masks an awful lot
BS is correct on this perception that Bournemouth are a little club punching above their weight. They are a little club, but very well backed by their owners.
In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if their net spend was higher than ours over the last few years. You could argue that we’ve sold a few for big money, but that just proves that we’ve recruited better. I have this feeling that Bournemouth haven’t recruited well.
Dyche has never spent money and has wheeled and dealed. He’s done a very good job at Burnley, but I have a feeling that this sort of management suits him. He’ll do well at underdog clubs trying to punch above their weight. He will, of course, be rejected by the fans of many clubs with delusions of grandeur. There are a lot of mid sized clubs who Dyche would take to the next level, He even managed to get Burnley into the Europa League.
Put Dyche at a huge club with money to spend, however, and it would surely be a disaster. His limited tactics would be wasted on better players and he wouldn’t last a season.
