Laughable to say that wasn’t a foul on DDG.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, Van Dijk jumped for the ball and had his hands down when the collision occurred. First two replays I thought it was a foul but I’m really not sure. Unless you’re literally not allowed to touch the keeper then I think we got out of jail there.
The Everton one a bit ago should really have been a foul as the guy’s arm was up, right across De Gea’s face. That’s not what Van Dijk did today - De Gea simply ought to have been stronger.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, it's debatable atbyhe very least and definitely not laughable.
Winston wrong as usual.

At first, to jump - but not when they collide. What is against Van Dijk is that he’s facing away from the keeper when he impedes him so it looks like he’s jumped into him, but I think that’s just the way he spins.
In the pre-VAR days it would pretty much always be a given as a foul as keepers basically always got the benefit of the doubt but given they had chance to rewatch this I wonder what made them overrule the initial decision.

I’m sorry, that’s wrong - his arm is raised.
Also, he jumps into DDG, it’s not a collision.
He jumps into the keeper, impedes him and doesn’t touch the ball. It’s as clear a foul as you’re likely to see.
I believe the reason some players think not is because they’re considering the extent of contact, which is not really the point.

Bit rich coming from Ole-Deluded-Baz 'tard.
“It’s as clear a foul as you’re likely to see.”
This is obviously hyperbole - it’s a very debatable decision. As I said, his arms are up initially but not when he touches De Gea.
I’m not saying it absolutely wasn’t a foul but I think we got lucky and I’d have had no complaints were the goal given.

Anything is debatable if you don’t know the rules.
That’s not aimed at you, but it is a clear foul.
How many ‘fouls’ have we seen overturned on VAR? Not many, because it needs to be very obviously an error.
The decision to overturn it demonstrates what I’m saying, I believe.

Doesn’t it come down to whether the keeper was “unfairly impeded”? Seems pretty subjective to me. Like I say, I can see the Everton one was a foul as his arm was up and across De Gea’s face; but Van Dijk’s wasn’t. Just looked like two people going up for the ball to me. If the rule is that Van Dijk can’t touch De Gea unless he wins the header then fair enough, I don’t know that rule.

I’ll try and dig it out but it’s something to do with impeding the keeper.
It can’t be classed as a collision when VVD jumped into an almost vertical jumping DDG, and his arm was up as he came into him.
Ultimately his jump prevented DDG from taking the ball and he made absolutely no contact with the ball either - I don’t see what’s debatable about it.
What’s the argument against?
The Everton one seemed more of a foul on de Gea than today imo. De Gea at no point had 2 hands firmly on the ball while VVD only had eyes on the ball and he never really went in hard on de Gea, even moving his arms down before making contact, contact on the keeper is allowed. These situations can go either way but I just feel we were a little lucky it went our way.
I think it was a foul on De Gea. I understand keepers get too much protection but VVD didn't get the ball, DDG did and the contact caused him to drop the ball.
It happened to Alisson last season and they didn't give the foul. Can't remember the game. The Everton one was very clearly a foul and not a good comparison.
Luckily for you VAR intervened, the same can't be said for us when you scored in the reverse fixture. The subjectivity of 'clear and obvious' I guess.

This. If there’s a significantly different rule for going up for a header with keepers than with defenders then I’m happy to say I didn’t know it.
Van Dijk’s Arms do NOT impede De Gea as the Everton player’s did. As I said, the fact that he’d turned his back by the time he collided might be what did it but it was by no means an obvious foul.

Separate incidents yes but both highly subjective and had a massive split with some saying foul and some not.
I've actually given up on 'clear and obvious' and accepted that I will never understand what it means.

Two entirely separate incidents - nothing lucky about it.

Separate incidents yes but both highly subjective and had a massive split with some saying foul and some not.
I've actually given up on 'clear and obvious' and accepted that I will never understand what it means.
