Terrestrial channels which we're forced to pay for by the BBC are filled with adverts.
Ok. Just think that without any ads you'd pay even more.

I imagine that the OP is referring to product placement, but not sure that exists in BBC programmes tbh.

I happily accept adverts on all the channels that show them because we're not paying any money to watch those channels. The advertising pays for those channels.
The annual £150 fee we pay is actually just to watch BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four.
And BBC News Channel if anyone watches that.
I agree OP, it’s a racket, these £1000 fines they threaten you with too, how do they come to that figure?
Should have the right to opt out of BBC
It's the BBC that should be prosecuted for making us pay nearly £150 for the utter shiite they put on television.
Would you prefer that the BBC went the way of ITV, and Channels 4 and 5, by putting on absolute garbage to satisfy the mass market of potato brained people in the UK? The BBC produce some decent stuff that would not be possible if it was just all about viewing numbers and catering for the brain dead general public, who make up the majority. Could we not just put a virus in McDonald's cardboard burgers and get rid of 99% of the dross people in this country within a few hours?
Some BBC output is really good - natural history, some drama, Laura Kuennsberg etc.....
Trouble is, any channel with EastEnders on needs to be shot and have all funds withdrawn.
Don't really get the hatred for the BBC.
I guess it will be one of those things that people will miss when it is gone and they end up have to pay several subscriptions different providers just to get what they have for a licence fee now.
The irony of it all.
If you go to prison for failing to pay fines for not paying your TV License, you then have access to a TV and are permitted to watch it, still without your TV license

Well they certainly wouldn't have to pay £150 per year for three or four BBC channels as all the channels on tv with commercial ad breaks pay for themselves and would be totally free to watch.

The "brain dead" you refer to probably don't buy as many McDs as you think. But you'd quickly wipe out the young student population pretty quick.
I pay a TV licence in Ireland, paid it in the Netherlands as well. I dont mind. But what irks me is that I have done away with all TV channels. I only have Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ and Apple TV. Yet I still have to pay the licence because I have a screen in the house, like a TV or Tablet.
That to me is the same as a mafia racket or extortion. I am not watching RTE ever. Why the fack do I have to pay the licence because I have a TV in the house? It facking infuriates me.
I am actually thinking if you take them to court over it, you might win.

I doubt they would remain 'free'. They get subsidies from the licence fee.
The BBC pro some of the best programmes available, radio to suit all tastes, more or less unbiased news reports from around the world.
If t was no BBC we would all end up paying a subscription a la Sky.

Is that accurate?
Certainly in the UK, you're allowed to use screens - it's only when you use them to access live TV or to stream BBC programs that you require the license, as I understand it.
