Schools were shut here before there was even a single death, and ordered to stay closed for an initial minimum of a month. They’ve closed just about everywhere.
It’s absolutely mental that they’re still open in the UK. Mental. I think in retrospect it’s going to look like a very, very bad decision.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wonder how many of the people calling for the schools to close have got kids of a primary school age? My 8 year old is a proper football and scooter lad he won't take kindly to being put under house arrest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With all due respect, you are coming across as a little selfish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
By supporting the governments view that my lad should be in school so me and the missus can go to work, get paid and pay our bills/taxes.
I see!?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The concern is that your kids chances of contracting this virus is likely greater the longer he stays in school, not too mention the risk posed to teachers who depending on their age may not cope as well with the virus as their pupils

Who gives a fack. I have 3 under 8 and will be on my own with them as my Mrs will be front line NHS. The schools should be closed immediately.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Talking to other parents over recent days they very much give a fack.
Many (especially single parents) are terrified that they will have extra child care duties that will prevent them from working and will be unable to pay bills and put food on their families table.
Not everybody can work from home or has thousands put aside to fall back on.
Those calling for the schools to be closed are pompous and thoughtless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd imagine there would be to government compensation for any parents who find themselves in that situation, at least you'd think so.

Is this the Chris Whitty who said live on TV yesterday that you could not be reinfected by covid19, then two minutes later Patrick Vallance said you could be reinfected by covid19, but it was quite rare, well he thought it was quite rare, but he wasn't sure, because we are all still on a learning curve. 😂😂😂
Thing is there's 506,000 teachers in the UK, and that's just teachers so doesn't include staff who work in the kitchens or admin etc. How many of those do we reckon are 60+ or have underlying health conditions?

Schools are one of the best places for these viruses to spread. The NZ government is one of several looking forwards.
They’ve increased benefit payments, increased winter benefit payments, and increased in-work tax credits to protect low income families with parents who can’t work.
Payments are increasing automatically, and will represent an extra NZ$100 per week for some families.

To be fair, I think he did say there could be anomalies in any such virus and its patients. Even if the few cases of second infections are 100 per true and scientifically verified, it still seems a small number.
But if your view is that any "herd immunity" strategy is too risky before we know more about getting the illness again - yes, I agree.
The entire UK strategy for fighting coronavirus was based on false analysis. Scientists advising the Gov’t now say the UK only realised "in the last few days" that its Coronavirus strategy would "likely result In hundreds of thousands of deaths"

Many (especially single parents) are terrified that they will have extra child care duties that will prevent them from working and will be unable to pay bills and put food on their families table.
Not everybody can work from home or has thousands put aside to fall back on.
Those calling for the schools to be closed are pompous and thoughtless.

Up to the government to support them. It's not thoughtless, it is absolutely needed. The whole, who gives a fack was in relation to any kid that likes being outside and won't take being off school/ locked down well. Who gives a fack. It's a bit bigger than anyone wanting to be outside doing stuff. The schools should and will be shut. It will hit everyone hard whether they can work at home or not.

The NZ government is one of several looking forwards.
They’ve increased benefit payments, increased winter benefit payments, and increased in-work tax credits to protect low income families with parents who can’t work.
Payments are increasing automatically, and will represent an extra NZ$100 per week for some families.

Johnson is being guided by experts. I trust Prof Whitty tbh, he has a good track record.
