Elsbels, what a great suggestion. Thank you for that. I'd hope that none of us have the virus or know anyone who has it, though it sounds inevitable that this will change in at least one respect, in the coming months. However, what is clear is that all of us are being affected by this and while I'm still touching wood that I'm (so far) relatively unscathed, my best wishes go out to the likes of Jonty, who's been hit on several fronts. We all like a bit of banter on here, which even gets heated from time to time, but what we're all experiencing now puts it all into perspective. Be safe and take care lads and lasses. xxx

im still kicking but have to say the coverage of this is 10 times worse than than brexit but just as muddled. I also see the EU has said everyman for himself and locked their borders when they were all supposed to be one big happy family and in it together. When this is over will there still be a EU
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry LDL but what do you expect them to do, "hey guys the scientific advice is to isolate as much as we can but, hey we're in the EU so instead we should continue to allow people to come and go as they please".
If anything this illustrates just how much of a myth the Brexiteers were spouting about countries not having control of their own borders was.
I would feel safer if we were part of the EU now, if only it was because we would be part of a larger organisation working collaboratively to identify a cure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I’m glad we are out as we have the ability to sort out this mess ourselves. We can decide our own monitory policy and not have to adhere to the one size fits all EU policy. Some countries will be totally reliant on the European Central Bank bailing them out because they joined the Euro. Thank goodness we didn’t.
Had we had better control of our borders we wouldn't have such a mess. We should have stopped people coming here as soon as this virus escalated in Wuhan. As for being safer in the EU, its not like if they can find a cure and we aren't allowed to have it. Its a collective effort to find a solution. What if we found the cure first? Europe would be straight on it.
Its America that wants the cure for themselves, not Europe!..
Closing Boarders, the only way of containing this Virus, keeping as many family members as possible together and locking anyone that is a threat of spreading it hopefully in their homes!..
I wonder how many are in Foreign Hospitals with it who wish they had their families close by or their families are stressed out because they may never see each other again!..
I'm at the moment doing ok, but I think I'd like to be closer to family if anything does happen!..
"Had we had better control of our borders we wouldn't have such a mess. We should have stopped people coming here as soon as this virus escalated in Wuhan."
Shaun, if China had come out with the truth as soon as it started the whole World would be a little better off!
This is not a European thing, but its turned into a World thing!..
Had two students email to say they were sick with it last week and yesterday one from the director of studies, who is my immediate superior, saying the same thing. Nobody's getting tested because there aren't enough testing kits.
Just waiting for the inevitable, I guess. Part of me says bring it on and let's get it over with. The worst bit is sitting around like a plum waiting for it.

And here is one potential reason why they can’t get testing kits.
The profiteering of some people is an utter disgrace.

A Doctor?.....should have his Licence taken away, money,(if they can find it!)taken away, and sent down for a long long time!..
I wonder why you cant write the truth for "schum" that ain't worth the air that they breath?..
The big(gest) failure of the Govt so far in dealing with this virus is in not getting testing kits. The ability to find out who has and hasn't got it, the rate that it's moving at and the areas affected by it has to be one of our greatest weapons to combat it. We still haven't had an explanation of what the hold-up is.

Where does this come from?
One can be critical of many US things but we have shown to be very generous when it comes to sharing technology and medical advancements, and sending first responders to help all over the world in times of disaster.

I can't vouch for it but in addition to the known strategies for avoiding the virus, drinking hot liquids as often as every 20 minutes if possible can wash the virus off one's throat down to the stomach where stomach acids will neutralize the virus.
Sounds logical to me, but I'm no expert.
Your mileage may vary!

Could be, but think its worth sharing and trying.
I'm struggling with allergies at the moment and am on my second day of self vocal isolation - no talking, texting only!
BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!
Olympics now officially postponed!!
Jonty - that is the utter pits. How can that guy live with himself?
Lorimer - you've hit the nail squarely on the head. Lockdown and test is the only way forward. We've got the lockdown here but there's nary a test in sight!
Jonny - it's not surprising that people in Europe/UK might have that idea about the US now after Trump apparently made a move to buy that German company which has a vaccine going into trials. But you're absolutely right about the immense humanitarian efforts that the US has pulled out of the hat in the past though.
Let's hope New York can weather the storm - looks like its building up there.
What a time to be alive!

I take no responsibility for this embarrassment of an individual. Pathetic and disgraceful are probably the most favorable words I can use for him!
Disgraceful how he has enriched himself and his family while in office.

Thanks for that.
Attempting to acquire the vaccine for just the US market is very different to Trump buying the company for himself.
Again, I take no ownership for this individual, I have been cringing since he was elected on that fateful November 8, 2016 day!
still alive and safe in isolation. just got a bunch of snow dumped on us here. went from a pond to a ice rink to a blanket of snow in two days. people here are taking this very seriously and i haven't witnessed much panic buying. people are respecting the social distancing in my town. keep posting people you are keeping me sane.
