Generally, the idea of religion is that you do what the preacher says, not what he does.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And that is the issue.

I am mainly versed in the abrahamic religions, and am a Muslim myself.

One of the biggest lessons I learnt was the "rulings" towards preachers and such.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not a Muslim but I am interested in knowing stuff like this, among others.

I found it fascinating tbh. And what go me looking into it was simple quotes that are never heard in the places of worship.

One that got me was if you see a preacher/scholar at the feet of the ruler then doubt his faith.

I looked into this and the rulings (in my words and being general here) and it was obvious to me that scholars and preachers of today are indeed "at the feet of the rulers". They pretty much then give sermons/rulings as dictated.

Islamically the Saudi scholars are all from similar universities as those places preach what the royals want. And if we look at the Bible you can see where the problem lies ie "the King James version"

I am not religious one but and to each their own. Although I take issue with someone telling me I will have a day of reckoning. Pi$$ off and do not spout that $hite. I do not walk into a church on a Sunday and try to drag you to the bar. Go sell crazy somewhere else, we are all full here! Stop peddling your drug.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So you are tolerant but not tolerant at the same time.

I find the issue with religious people is they forget the hard stuff and go do the easy stuff which is to judge others and preach at people.

The most spiritual people you might meet don't need to follow anything and just are.

This is whats wrong with ALL blasted religions. everyone else is wrong. You can see it in wars and terrorism. Hate not love.

theres no reason to join them by being equally intolerant. lol
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think my point is...... Leave me alone and I will you Leave you alone without judgment. I still miss the Jaovah’s witnesses on Xmas day for example.

Am a born again, a Christian, a believer...but spent most my life sinning and away from church and organised religion.

And when faced with this virus, gave no religious excuses.

Yeah, in some places religious leaders treat politicians like small gods and you are spot on. Throughout history fewer wars have actually been fought in Gods name than you'd think. There's always the underlying true human reason for fighting.

Tbf and this is just my own belief based on what I know, the blasting of other religions and the whole we are right isn't very religious.

What I mean is that in the actual teachings of Moses Jesus and Muhammad there was no saying the religion previous was wrong.

Jesus pretty much said (in my words) that he was bringing folk back to the religion of Moses as people had gone astray. Muhammad said the same thing and went on to say that people from his religion will also stray.

In this context stray would mean make it up or change it.

All said the people of the book (meaning all the abrahamic religions) were correct and true. Just that people changing the books were wrong

I looked up some things that occurred historically. And again I am more versed in the Islamic stuff but the same applies to Judaism and Christianity.

I'm Saudi for example (and large parts of the middle East) the teachings followed are of imam shafie (whereas in South Asia it's imam any hanifa). As Muslims we respect the 4 main imams. And really you shouldn't adhere to one

But the point was why? Why did different areas follow one over the other. And it's simple when you explore it. It's the rulings on certain issues. So the Saudi rulers preferred some of the leniency in imam shafie. They couldn't outrightly ban the other imams so what they did was set up shafie based institutions and gave grants and free books to the students who went to them. Which meant a higher intake and a certain philosophy being put in place.

Looked into this and again I would put forward that the age of consent was never an issue in the main religions until rulers got involved and had rulings to suit them.

As far as I have learnt, the general rule was puberty but the "maturity" of the kids also to be taken into account. Which tbf today would mean 18 year olds couldn't marry as they don't necessarily have the "maturity". I'm putting maturity in "s because I can't think of the right word.

it was rulers who used marriage as a way of strengthening ties and ownership (remember non religions had sons marrying their mothers to keep "kingship"

This resulted in preachers and scholars giving rulings to please the king's/rulers and aid them in their quests.

Some of the old laws allowed marriages to 6 month old babies and even rules saying s3x with under 6 months wasn't s3x.

Classic case of "finding a way" to suit. Then blame religion.
