Its a scienyific approach. The law of probability suggests that a small percentage of crazy stupid theories turn out to actually be factual. In fact, a lot of truths and facts throughout history started with a crazy stupid theory, only to be found to be factual.
If this had been the case and all theories are shut down and stopped from spreading like you say, all these facts would never have seen the light of day.
Is it better to have 1000 guilty people go free or one innocent person punished? Is it better to have 1000 crazy theories if one of them is right than to have no theories at all, in which case you have zero correct theories.
The qualification that the theory must not sound crazy and stupid from the very start is one that no conspiracy theory can meet, or will really struggle to meet.
----------------------------------------------------
Very well articulated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We articulated but flawed I feel.
The implication is that the crazy theories have no negative impact. If this were true I'd be right on board, however we only have to look at the anti-vax movement to see how very real damage can be done by crazy theories.
There's no need to 'shut down all theories' but it is only reasonable, considering the proliferation of them on the internet, to subject them to reasonable logical thought processes and some level of fact-checking.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
who does the fact checking
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends on the theory I guess, it might be the government, health officials, or the scientific community. Though we should all be responsible for critiquing what we read online to some extent. It's just as easy to find genuine research as it is to read something on Facebook.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No, a lot didn't start with a crazy stupid theory. If they were a crazy stupid theory they wouldn't turn out factual.
-----
Easy to say that now when you already know the truth. The theory doesn't seem crazy to you now.
Take a look at Flat earthers. Take a look at the sky is fake people. They look crazy and insane.
Well, that's what Galileo looked like. The world is round was as crazy as can be at that time. Gravity had not been discovered, so if its round we should fall off the earth when we are at the bottom.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The earth was found to be round by Pythagoras in 500BC.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I said, it was a "theory for hundreds of years". Took nearly a millennium for this to become mainstream.
Shows you what a crazy, stupid idea it was to begin with.
It’s scientific.
Not surprised someone as stupid as you thinks this way, Member.

Yes you're right. That is largely down to 1. the church and 2. the lack of experimental evidence.
However I think it's fairer to say that the church's suggestion that the universe revolves around the Earth is a more ridiculous theory than the opposite, and is the perfect example of why scientific process should be followed.
I get the impression some people don’t know what a conspiracy theory is.

Heliocentrism.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How is that a crazy theory or conspiracy?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the whole world prior to Galileo's conflict with the Church, the majority of educated people subscribed either to the Aristotelian geocentric view that the Earth was the center of the universe and that all heavenly bodies revolved around the Earth,[72] or the Tychonic system that blended geocentrism with heliocentrism.

But then some people came up many years later with the flat earth theory. At least they were listened to but the theory could not be proven scietifically till this day.

Opposition to heliocentrism and Galileo's writings combined scientific and religious objections. Scientific opposition came from the likes of Tycho Brahe and others and arose from the fact that, if heliocentrism were true, an annual stellar parallax should be observed, though none was at the time.

However I think it's fairer to say that the church's suggestion that the universe revolves around the Earth is a more ridiculous theory than the opposite, and is the perfect example of why scientific process should be followed.

Heliocentrism.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How is that a crazy theory or conspiracy?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the whole world prior to Galileo's conflict with the Church, the majority of educated people subscribed either to the Aristotelian geocentric view that the Earth was the center of the universe and that all heavenly bodies revolved around the Earth,[72] or the Tychonic system that blended geocentrism with heliocentrism.

Opposition to heliocentrism and Galileo's writings combined scientific and religious objections. Scientific opposition came from the likes of Tycho Brahe and others and arose from the fact that, if heliocentrism were true, an annual stellar parallax should be observed, though none was at the time.
