Funny how two of the clubs routinely boasted about as being exceptionally ran are 3 months away from going under...

A member of staff who works at Liverpool, and did not wish to be named, told BBC Sport: "The club call their staff their family - I'm not feeling like a family member.

"Why is a club that turns over £100m using a government scheme for its staff when other businesses are more in need of it?

"I feel disappointed and I'm feeling that this government scheme could be used by businesses in trouble."

The member of stuff added that they were "disappointed, especially after Everton said they were not doing it".

Where is all the money from these record deals and cup wins going?

We hear they sell big, buy gems to develop and are well ran!

The community work they have been doing in the community is to be applauded, this isn't however!

Give it time and everyone will be doing it .

They haven’t got much time. We’re nicely into the second month of the three that’s been sanctioned. Who knows if it will be extended. I for one don’t think it will.

And they have to furlough staff as part of the application which will be means tested by HMRC well after the event so it for example a club uses the scheme and later it’s found to have made huge profits, they’ll be made to pay it back.

The problem every business has is that there is no exit plan so who is to say there would even be a finish this season which means they lose out on huge tv monies or an even later start to next season which will just magnify the most income stream when combined with zero ticket sales?

Thing is that nobody can plan for an exit as there is no guidance; only guesswork.

Liverpool leading the way once Spurs greed was shown. Good job the players contribute high tax via wages to help cover this leeching

Last seasons Champions League finalist are amongst the first to cry poverty despite having billionaire owners and huge upturns in revenue.

Something don't sit right

Yes I wouldn’t be surprised to see them all go down the route now two big ones have opened the door
----------------------------------------------------------------------
that is the problem, unless there is a unified approach the people doing it will be perceived as gaining an advantage the longer it continues. I can understand why a club might want to do it but they should be heavy consequences unless the also impose a wage cut on players and other high earners too
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed.

When it comes down to it, no company wants to use their cash reserves if there is no income coming in.

For a moral point of view, I personally think companies who have the funds to pay their staff wages for a few months, should pay it as goodwill. From a business point of view, why would you pay out when there's nothing coming in.

You can bet Klopp wouldn't have been too keen on the club using government money.

Also we'll all have to repay this money someway or another later on down the line in higher taxes. The less big companies take, the less we'll all have to pay back. That should be a thought in company execs minds too.

If they thought like that they wouldn’t be company executives

They have a legal duty to do what is in the best interests of their business

Will we all have to pay it back though? 2019 had Spurs as second most profitable club yet paid 500k corporation tax (any spurs fans feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). And their all at it in the league.

Agents are usually based overseas so don't pay UK tax.

That will have to change.

Why aren't all the clubs doing it then?
I think fans will find plenty of excuses for a poor decision.
Further more players shouldn't have waited to be told, they should have seen what was going on and offered. And I include United players except Rashford and Mata who are doing their bit.

I'll certainly have to pay more tax and the retirement age will start to creep up.

Why should parasitic agents get a clear run?

Actually there will be nothing in a company executives brief or job description covering morality other than not brining the business or themselves into disrepute.

Liverpool and their fans pride themselves on being anti government and Scouse not English. Therefore them taking 80% of wages required to pay their employees from them is such a sickening move. When the Glazers and Woodward make you look morally bankrupt you know things are bad

In fairness, the players are scattered all over the globe atm.

The PFA should have suggested action and they could have voted for it online.

Bored out of my skull man, I was one of the few still working up till Thursday when a senior manager took me aside and told me I’m being furloughed for 3 months. There’s no business at all. So frustrating.

Whether they should or shouldn’t is a moot point. They don’t have to pay U.K. taxes if they or their company is legally based elsewhere so why would it have to change?

Liverpool gave £43m to agents last year. Four weeks into a shutdown, the government is being asked to pay 80% of Liverpool's wages for non-playing staff (club paying the other 20%).
