What have the club done? Can’t say I’ve had the time to pay any attention to the stories.

Someone sum it up for me please.

Well said OP.

You aren't the first and sadly, you don't be the last team to do this. I suppose successful businessmen don't become successful without being ruthless, but there really should be a limit. And this has crossed a line that really shouldn't have been crossed. Exploiting a loophole fin a situation where the financial gain really couldn't have outweighed the moral cost. Let alone how out of touch with the people in the community and who support the club they are in taking these actions.

Given how little the figures involved will actually affect their bottom line, it's hard to even understand, let alone justify. Let alone the damage this will do to their reputation. But I expect more and more to follow suit, sadly.

Fair play to all the Pool fans here. Not seen one attempt to justify this. Only condemnation

They've used the loophole that was intended to assist struggling businesses who couldn't afford to pay staff. So they've furloughed staff, knowing that the government will pay 80% of their wages, provided they earn less than £2,500 per month. Liverpool have "generously" agreed to ensure that they'll get their full wage. So they'll pay the other 20%. Nothing legally wrong with it, but morally, it's pretty poor.

As Goofy said above, even if it lasts for 6 months that amounts to about 6 million pounds. The club has that and then some, we paid more for Minamino ffs

It’s greed. Instead of doing the right thing and taking the small hit themselves and leaving the funds available for companies that genuinely need it, and even then may not survive, they are dipping into it to save a few pennies.

Morally bankrupt

Also it’s good to see the likes of Carra and Collymore call the club out on it. Hopefully a few more ex players do so.

Can only imagine what Kenny thinks.

isn't Kenny a member of the non-playing staff furloughed too? or are you still paying the non-exec's through this??

I doubt it as I can see most, if not all the other EPL clubs following suit now.

As ever it’s the taxpayers that will ultimately pick up the bill for this pay support further down the line. Our own club is taking money out of the pockets who need it most. It’s shameful and against the principles of the club was built on.

I wonder what their plan is for the playing staff???

I am more disgusted with the players of my club as they should have volunteered taking the cuts to protect the lower paid workers. Now they hiding behind the pfa with their "concerns".

Poorly thought out scheme, rushed in by the government. So full of loop holes you could drive several buses through at once.

Great idea at the time to save people from imminent redundancy that worked for SME. Fast forward two weeks and global corporations with billion $ balance sheets are latching onto the teat of a generation of future tax payers.
Make no mistake, it going to years of "austerity" to punish the workers for this pandemic. How dare the great unwashed spread virus among the population.

There is no 'Spurs or Liverpool shop' being affected by this. Only shops. If you want to try to bring tribalism into this, you're completely missing the point.

Isn’t the club doing the very thing that most supporters from Merseyside do (seek government assistance)?

Isn’t it the stereotype that scousers are on the dole?

Personally, I don’t see a problem doing it. For how much garbage Liverpool supporters get from other club supporters like calling us bin dippers, murderers, etc etc....make them pay up.

Sorry, just being frank.

It isn't ''free'' as it comes at a cost.

(This is the reason that economics isn't taught in schools).

posted on 5/4/20

Yeah, the same 'free money' that hopefully the likes of Liverpool FC, Tottenham Hotspur etc stop receiving on the other side of this, when attendances are down, footfall in their club shops is down, and tv subscriptions are cancelled / not renewed due to everyone having a great time trying their best to repay it.

I'm glad that Liverpool and Spurs are being criticised for this shameful approach, it would e great if it she'd light on other corporates doing similar.
