The first suggestion is - in my own opinion my good man - very deluded.

Secondly, Cristiano is having an off-season by his dizzying standards. He has had flashes, but took a short while to get doing. The guy is also 34.

Last season, Serie A's top scorer was Quagliarella, who I love, but is a dinosaur and was not close to top 10. I don't think Serie A goals scored is a great foundation for the best/top 10 striker in the world.

Look at Immobile's international record, by comparison.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Immobiles international record is somewhat unexplainable though, he is far better than the record suggests.

Also Ronaldo has been unable to perform for a full season for like the last three years

Interesting fact, Martial and Rashford haven't even scored 50 Premier League goals. Lukaku has 50+ international goals and had scored 50 Premier League goals by the time he was 22.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think there's a lot of hard feelings from United fans towards Lukaku for his up and down attitude in his last season there. He was unfit though and then when Solskjaer came he wanted out. It's unreal that they judge Lukaku for that single season and ignore the whole of the rest of his career.

I can pick stats out too: when he moved to other (arguably more difficult) leagues, look what happened:

Dortmund: 3 goals in 24 apps;
Sevilla: 2 goals in 8 apps.

Quag has 1 less goal for Italy in 11 less apps.

I don't think either of them should be near a top 10 - nor should Lukaku.

Darren Bent bagged 24 in a single PL season once. Stats aren't the be-all and end-all.

Yet Benzema, who has not played for France in donkeys, can walk into a top 10 list?

Bottom line is, I've seen all four of them play live. With the exception of Immobile, who I've seen live twice, I've watch them all live very regularly.

I wanted Lukaku to succeed at United but he simply didn't. I have no ill-feeling against the guy, but to suggest he's a better footballer than either Rashford or Martial is ludicrous.

Lukaku has had a great season with Inter statistically - he did in his first with us - but I don't think football starts or ends with stats.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I have Firmino in the list yet?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now HE would be in my top 10.

I think he has issues living outside Italy or something, no?

And I'm not talking about one single season like your Darren Bent example, he's consistently scored a lot of goals over multiple seasons in the Serie A.

I don't get your viewpoint. Why are goals scored in the Serie A not 'valid'?

posted on 9/4/20

Immobile’s grate.

They're not 'invalid' at all. Twofold:

1. I don't think stats without watching a player over and over tell the full story. No amount of (ironically) stat quoting will ever change my mind on that.

2. My argument with Serie A is that I don't believe the standard is as good as the other 'big' leagues.

I'm sure the head of the Italian FA admitted a couple years ago that Serie A had now regressed behind Ligue 1 and sat fifth in the best leagues in the world?

Over the years, a fair few strikers who I would not consider to be in the top bracket have bagged some amazing numbers over there. Higauin probably the best example...but you're going to tell me that you love Higuain aren't you?

There is no way on earth Serie A is behind Ligue 1.

In his prime yeah, HIguain was quality, top 10 in the world for sure.

Past it now.

I don't think it's significantly worse than Bundesliga and it's better than Ligue 1.

I don't think Serie A is worse than Ligue 1; I'm saying the head of the Italian FA said that.

Bundesliga is awesome to watch, but in honesty, there's a fair few sleeping giants around Europe right now. Take nothing away from Liverpool, but it's one of the reasons the rest of us have to look on in awe.

Your usual suspects (Real, Barca, Bayern, the Milans, ourselves, Chelsea, Arsenal) haven't been close to what we have been and perhaps what you might have come to expect. The first three listed haven't had the fall the remainder suffered, given.

Anyway, we've gone off-topic; the point was: Lukaku sucks Have a lovely day and all the best to you and yours, Wahl

Serie A is stronger than Ligue 1. It’s on a par with the Bundesliga - a league notorious for being easy to score in.

Immobile’s a bit of a homer, like a lot of Italians, but he’s obviously a very good striker. Scoring 27 goals in 26 games is brilliant, even if it doesn’t match up to La Liga and the prem. Lukaku and Ronaldo have scored goals everywhere they’ve been and they aren’t scoring at that rate, and it’s not like it’s he’s not proven himself in the league before.

Ronaldo may not be the player he was, but he’s still one of the best goal scorers around and Immobile’s scoring at a similar rate. That’s impressive whatever way you spin it.

Martial and Rashford haven’t shown anything like that in their careers thus far.

Immobile top 10?! Dear god no.

I’d have Kane, Griezmann, Icardi, Firmino all above him and that’s just off the top of my head. Probably Dybala as well.

wide forward. like mane, salah, ronaldo, messi, neymar etc

forgot about Firmino in my list , Haaland is still raw so put Firmino 5 and bump everyone down one

posted on 9/4/20

I agree with that, it's just many though I was wrong and that Mbappe was actually a striker, so I added him to my list

Mbappe and Neymar playing the same role in the same team must cause some problems with getting in each others way
