The UK and US dont recognise Taiwan as a country either. Taiwan is not recognised by the UN and therefore cannot be a member of the WHO.
People seem to think that WHO have a lot more power than they actually do. They are reliant on nations giving them access and updates, they are reliant on funding from organisations like the UN and from individual nations etc.
If people really feel this strongly about what their role should be, they should really be in favour of giving them more power and jurisdiction. Instead, people come across like they want them disbanded, leaving a vacuum in its place. Which is probably what people like Trump want to happen.

Prev with SARS they were vigilant with data. This episode has shown they are no longer fit, as far as circulating info is concerned.
If Joe blogs see WHO state China is fine, or the US closing airports to Chinese flights is over zealous, then they take this as informed, factual info.
If they worded the initial tweets/replies as China has told us something but we have not validated it, it would have painted a dif picture.
The fact they ignored Taiwan pleas just seems moronic, plain and simple. They have people nominated to hold positions to act as their members eyes and ears, and by refusing to even acknowledge Twain concerns they put their members in danger.
As an example, if Taiwan had an outbreak and approached WHO to tell them, would they also ignore it?
As I've said countless times now, they are simply victims of what they set out to prevent, manipulation and misinformation.
If they have little power to validate info they post, let others do so. Otherwise it's no dif to my mate dave saying his mate in China said it's fine, don't worry.

And that's exactly what nations want. They don't want to be supervised and anything that takes away control of these situations has often been amended out or rejected outright.
I don't know if there's an online source detailing their powers but if their powers are limited to that then what do you want them to do?
If you read the article, WHO had to wait for weeks to get info to make a decision. If they had powers to observe, test and obtain samples from Wuhan then that's exactly what they would have done and all this could have very well been averted.
You are being shown what is possible if you strengthen these institutions but I'm surprised people want to see them weakened further or abolished.

I totally understand the situation and the problems they would incur even if they did visit. They would see what the CCP wants them to see. It just reinforces the fact that for as long as people take their statements as gospel, we have an issue. It effects safety. It has crested in ill communication and allowed the virus to spread unnecessarily.
We need a body that is funded on the pretence is can validate all info and won't be a pr company used to spread it's members own narratives.
If I revert back to the Taiwan scenario. If they had the initial outbreak would WHO have just ignored the alarm?
After this they will be under so much scrutiny I don't see how they can continue to hold the torch as the publics go to for info, in these situations.

I have read this article about the WHO.
While I am certainly no supporter of Donald J Trump, in fact I am exactly the opposite, I want the Bugga out of the white house and up before the judge for his tax evasions, ......
I have to conclude that on the subject of the WHO Trump has a point. Withholding $400 Billion is a bit drastic. But maybe the WHO needs to be reorganized and streamlined. It is old and decrepit, unable to make assessments rapidly, prone to cronyism and possibly even corruption (although the article didn't get into that!). To undermine the warnings of one of their own immunologists that the virus was human-to-human contagious is simply egregious and deserving of punishment a la Trump.
I would hope Trump's action, for whatever reasons he has in taking it, which are certainly self-interested, will lead to re-organization.
That would be for the best for the WHO.
Otherwise it will go the way of the League of Nations!

This is what I'm talking about.
Anyone who thinks WHO can allow or disallow China from doing anything they want is not qualified to comment on this subject. Go read a book and then come back.
To undermine the warnings of one of their own immunologists that the virus was human-to-human contagious
-----
And what were the other immunologists saying. If only one of them gave this advise then he wasn't ignored, he was in a minority of one. Im not sure whay you say is what happened but on a rational basis you can't just act in the word of one guy.
What we need to be questioning is why the WHO is sitting in some chamber waiting to be told what's going on. Why aren't their agents on the field carrying out these tests and coming up with solutions? Its in the interest of the world that this happens but WHO has no powers to do this.
We know that nations have the capacity to lie and cheat, putting other nations in trouble. Just like Chernobyl nuclear accident. Ideally the WHO is supposed to be the check and balance against that healthwise but it has no teeth whatsoever.

The WHO don't seem to be able to locate Taiwan on their "moral compass"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
China told WHO not to mention them, and china fund WHO and give them "data" lol!
WHO a!lowing wuhan and china back to work with no warnings?
-----
This is what I'm talking about.
Anyone who thinks WHO can allow or disallow China from doing anything they want is not qualified to comment on this subject. Go read a book and then come back.

Btw Trump is an absolute terwat for encouraging people in certain states to protest the lockdown . Vile person for politcising this .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Trump is trump๐ต
But in Germany, Spain, Italy and nordic nations, lockdown protests take p!ace and they are living normal lives, back to school and work!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did their leaders encourage protest ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, if you want me to defend Donald, I am not doing so bud.
Starmer is encouraging an exit Lockdown plan and dates and has been for weeks.
So, as in Europe, there is a drive by leaders to break lock down soon.
