“Everyone knows that Paul wants to leave Manchester United, he wants to play Champions League football and win titles.
"We all know that won't happen at United. We will see what happens this summer."
And his agent stated this last summer...
Everyone within the club [United] from the manager to the owner knows Paul’s wishes,” Raiola told The Times. “Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on. We are in the process of that. Everyone knows what the feelings of Paul are.”

So if he signs a new contract what does it mean?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That no one wanted him - especially now it’s probably harder than ever for big money moves to happen

If he really badly wanted to leave he could run his deal down though? Say what you like about Pogba but if he was on a free he could pick and choose his next club.

In this current climate though it’s a bit dangerous to run a contract down - he’s got nothing to lose by signing a new contract - gets a pay increase (that he doesn’t deserve btw), gets more security in this difficult time and perhaps negotiates a release clause too

Why is it dangerous?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With Coronavirus being something that causes financial hardship to football clubs for at least a year imo (as in no fans allowed in stadiums until there’s a vaccine) there’s no guarantees about any big clubs having the money to pay someone like Pogba what he would expect. United are as close to bulletproof in this financial climate as it gets so he would be smart to sign a new deal with more money and just see how this thing plays out.
Clubs will be going bust in the next few years from this imo and while the likes of Real and Juventus will be fine, their revenues will likely drop and who knows what they will have to offer Pogba in a couple of seasons.
They’ll still have enough money to offer him a great wage and signing on fee.
Juve still want to sign him this summer with a transfer fee. They won’t turn their noses up at him in a couple of years if they can get him on a free.

It's dangerous for United to run a contract down, I meant. For Pogba, acting like a spoilt brat for another year isn't a realistic option.

And Juve's wage bill has them on a knife edge in terms of FFP
Get rid of him or even better get rid of his agent. Agents are becoming the pariahs of the sporting world. A bunch of tenpercenters who probably were the last ones to be picked for a team at every games session at school. A CSE pass in economics does not make you better qualified to advise young sportsmen/women than the dedicated and experienced people who work in a well regulated sporting administration that 2e appear to have in this country.
In Pogba's case, I think the agent is a handy tool to take the blame. His repeated statements suggest it's Pogba himself who's been agitating for a move. It's part of Raiola's remit to take the blame for that. The agent is a lowlife leech, make no mistake. But there's no way on Earth Pogba hasn't been aware of the things he's said and if he hasn't endorsed them, he's certainly not seen any issue with them
How much of a pay cut is he taking?

This. Ample opportunity and he and his agent have made it clear he wanted out. The club not wanting to sell is quite irrelevant if a team really wanted him, they’d pay a large fee. No one did.
If he did run down his contract, that would change the situation as clubs would start to be interested and he could almost choose his destination. It seems no one valued him enough to spend decent money on.
Which we will reward by giving him a 400k a week deal or something stupid..

Anyway, I hope he does sign and we bring in Partey. We'll immediately have one of the best midfields in Europe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, we wouldn’t.
We’d have the potential for the development of one of the best midfields in Europe.
Of course it's not guaranteed, nothing is but looking at on paper, you'ed have to feel confident.
