Woezil must have some serious dirt on one of the Arsenal big wigs to be awarded a contract like that

Why do people believe what the media is saying?

That one of the players who refuse a pay cut is Özil is pure speculation and invention.

Ozil has done the right thing. He has to pay more with this reduction than the rest of the staff by a big margin. Not his fault he is on 350k a week while the club first average is at 140k a week (wild guess).

350k a week also includes his signing on fee when he agreed this new contract as he was about to leave on a free.

Have any of our players taken pay cuts?

Ozil is hated by the fans and, like Pogba, generates news and hits on twitter.

In Ozil's defence the muggy execs at our club will probably be pocketing the money not going to players anyway. Fack I hate my club

Arsenal are owned by extremely rich people who certainly won't be making any personal sacrfice during the pandemic.

Why should Ozil agree to a drop in wages?

So why should Ozil take a pay cut?
---------------------------------------------------------------------it is extremely likely that Arsenal' s owners have made large losses during this crisis and may be struggling to keep businesses afloat and people in jobs.

Kroenke has reportedly provided the club with a large sum to keep losses to a minimum and in line with other businesses has asked his employees Ozil included to help by having their pay reduced.

Nothing wrong with that in my view. If players refuse then they can move on to other clubs who no doubt would have the same pay reduction expectations.

Just reading some of the comments, Ozil already does a lot for charitable causes. Probably more than any of us put together.

But no, this news is not a good look.

posted on 21/4/20

Why should he give up pay exactly? This is more nonsense targeting to conform with everyone else.

That is his contract and has the right to hold onto it. Why don't the billionaire owners cover for whatever shortfall they need?

And who is to say Ozil isn't using significant amounts on supporting charities and extended family members etc. I think it's stupid and people are moaning about he is on £350k he can afford to don't see the bigger picture.

posted on 21/4/20

To be Devil’s advocate, he pays ~£9million/year in taxes and donates a significant amount to charity anyway. He’s well within his right practically of course to not take the pay-cut but also morally it can be argued he’s within his rights. Or at least more so than people realise.

So Özil said he wants to guage the full situation and is willing to cut his wage by even more than what every other player has done VOLUNTARILY and
@johncrossmirror
has spun that as a negative? Media are a virus.

Why not just furlough him , that way he will loose 20%

You have to say the optics aren't great. Although the amount of stuff he does for good causes is such that you could argue the money might go somewhere more useful than what Arsenal might do with it...

Although it is interesting that The Mirror have decided to focus this story so much on Ozil to the extent that he's the only one named. I guess it could be just the fact that he's the highest paid, but there's always been an element of the media that have had it in for him..
