If next season can start on time, then that time can be used to finish this season and next season would just be delayed by a couple of months or so at most.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How on earth will next season be able to start 2 months late? You do realise that City and Utd have potentially 19/18 games left. Plus the players will want a gap between the 2 or some will go to the Euros having played over 70 games without a break.
Take your Liverpool tinted specs off and get real.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No winter break. League Cup scrapped for the season if necessary. This season's European competitions will likely be shortened. There was talk of a two week break between seasons. It can work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not a chance of it working. Players can barely play one game a week as it is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
More rotation then.

Actually this could be the trigger for the League Cup being scrapped altogether maybe. France are doing the same, although they had already planned it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The league cup is filled up up with reserve teams, so why scrap it, and it hardly takes any playing time for most teams. European football will be scrapped.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
European football is much more dangerous in these times. Would be surprised to see it next season. Certainly not with away fan allocations.
This is one of my issues with UEFA. The desperation for their competitions to be decided just stinks of self interest, and there doesn’t appear to be a thought as to the implications that it could have.

5 Live were talking about moving the Euros to next winter, 2021. There'll be a full year between that and the Qatar World Cup and it gives the 20/21 season to be played out in it's entirety from whenever it starts - after the conclusion of this season.
Everyone's a winner.
Can’t see anyone wanting it played in the winter. Summer tournaments are more profitable for everyone.
Euro 2020 is now planned to be played next summer (but still called 2020).
Even if the lockdown was lifted not it would mean a coule of weeks for players in a post break preseason type period, then the remaining 2 1/2 months of the season, so call it 3 months total already puts us at the end of July. Then they need a break between seasons so it will be late starting and then straight into the rescheduled Euro 2020, then next season.
Its too much to expect the players to do without enough time to recover and risks injuries.
My solution, as I text to a friend who asked this morning is to scrap this season and start afresh in August and then carry on as normal if the lockdown has been lifted.
However, with speculation that the life wont get back to normal and pubs might not be allowed to open until Christmas, it is unlikely crowds will be attending football matches either. So that means either played behind closed doors or no football. My solution is that if lockdown does go on past the end of the year, and maybe even if its before that, we resume this season in 2021. It would mean losing an entire season but is a long term solution should this go on longer.
Actually, thinking about it, with Euro 2020 planned for June 2021 we cant delay the start of next season or the season will have to be finished with international European players missing.
If 20/21 season was delayed such that it couldn’t be finished before Euro 2020 (..in 2021) then i’d just break the season up either side of it, as would be done for Winter tournament.
I have to say I’m surprised a lot of fans still would prefer a season to be null&void or finished as it is, rather than finish the season. I was under impression that most fans wanted to finish the season as most fair way to decide but I guess not

Should just do something mad on a one-off and split the 20/21 season into two regional leagues per each division with a mini-league/play-off to crown winners & final positions like they do in MLS.

It’s the simplest way to avoid all this pontification about rearranging future seasons just to finish the current one. The momentum of the season has ground to a standstill, picking it up again because it is “fair and just”, like it is some virtuous decision is overstating the importance of football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I’m starting to appreciate that now. To just accept the season has gone, and there’s nothing we can do about it. And then either null&void or finish as it is.
I can understand crowing champions based on current standings, but to relegate a club on current standings could potentially cripple them, especially as you go down the leagues.
They should just get everyone to play each other on Fifa

You do realise there are some gifted players on here.
UTD could Nick the league.
?
What makes next season :
a) a higher priority than this season?
b) a shoe in to start on time anyway?
c) guarantees to be played under normal circumstances?
If this season is finished behind closed doors, next season will start on time even if it needs to be behind closed doors as the precedent has been set.
Prefer corona virus is taken seriously though and have football suspended until early 2021 to make sure we have all beaten the virus and recommence with fans back at the game then.

I put forward the idea of cancelling next season as soon as Eufa moved the Euros.
Finish all competitions in the new year, hopefully things will have returned to a semblance of normality, (maybe no away fans).
Nice to see that Red and I finally agree on something!
