5 substitues

This is fine as long as you also introduce stop the clock for subs so they are not used for time wasting.
Also I'd like to see a bigger bench like the internationals. Let all match day squad players be available as subs.

Injury time will become an absolute farce.

5 subs might not be enough IMO.

Should have gone for 7 subs like FIFA 10.

If there’s a maximum of 3 slots in total I don’t see this affecting injury time at all

Unless they have three digital boards to announce all substitution at the same time, the player will still walk off the pitch one after another so the wasted time would be the same.

It seems that generally we are in favour of this idea as long as it can't be used as a time-wasting tool. A player being subbed can leave the pitch by the shortest route and either remove his shirt or be given a hi-vis bib / jacket to wear so he can't be mistaken for a 'viable' player as he returns to the dressing room.

Too many if its a long term decision.

Jose trying to defend a 1-0 lead will have subs on at 85, 87, 89, 91 and 93 mins.

And still lose 3-1

Horrible idea!!! I mean what are we doing? As someone already mentioned above managers will be absolutely abusing this potential new rule. Imagine 5 subs in the last 2 or 3 minutes of the match by the winning team

firstly, players are supposed to leave at the nearest point so there should be no time wasting.

2nd, how about allowinng 2 more subs if they are academy or U21s.

Teams like City can have Stones, Mahrez, Concelo, Jesus, Sane all coming on - 5 players probably cost more than most EPL first XIs. Its a massive advantage.

This would be a good chance to allow yoof to break throu and maybe more of a decent long term policy to promote academy players

Not sure why the game has to stop for substitutions, to be honest.

Other professional sports allow for them to take place whilst the action continues.

Refs and their assistants are mic’d up. Prepare the player, have the assistant ref check the details and the substitute before confirming the switch with the ref, then let the new player enter the field of play whilst the action continues from any point after the player coming off leaves the playing area.

I agree. With so many eyes on the field now there are plenty of ways.to make sure you never have 12 mennonite the field. If you really want the ref to have more control you can have the ref wave when he is happy for the player to come on similar to when a player leaves for treatment.

They shud change the game time from 2 half of 45 mins too 2 half of30 min with clock stop when ball not in play.
No time wasting, same amount of time ball in play as now, if not more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no need to shorten the game. just bring in stop the clock. you don't stop on every deadball. just like other games you stop if it is going to be more than a few seconds like in hockey. keeps the flow going and stops idiots from trying to time waste with subs and rolling around.
