He wanted to join Chelsea as he had given years to Liverpool and he wanted to compete for titles. In the end, he couldn't go through with it. I'm sure he'll always have a slight regret but overall he'll be happy with his choice as he will go down as one of the most legendary players in the club's history.

Stevie was all about the individual glory, never about the team. I'm confident England would have done better in 2006 and 2010 if they'd had someone playing alongside Lampard who actually complimented his style instead of playing Gerrard who was more focused on scoring goals than actually playing for the team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another myth. Although he thrived on personal glory, and let’s face it, all the great sportsmen do otherwise they wouldn’t achieve the peak, the way he took games by the scruff of the neck and won so many games virtually singlehandedly, just makes it look like he’s doing it for himself. If he was only about personal glory he wouldn’t have stayed at Liverpool his whole career.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. They'll say anything, as they can't use his actual ability.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well the discussion is best CMs. Yet you highlight his amazing form in 08/09 to back up your argument, when he was effectively playing as a second striker
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What on earth are you talking about? Do you have a problem with reading? I never used 08/09 to back up any argument. Somebody gave their opinion that Gerrard was moved from central midfield and I explained the actual reason. You've completely made that up. What a bizarre comment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well 08/09 is the season that Gerrard played in front of Alonso and Mascherano so clearly you have used that season go back up your argument

So a reading problem and thick as two short planks?
I didn't use it to back up my argument in regards to the top ten best central midfielders. I used it to back up my argument about why he was moved from central midfield as somebody incorrect stated he was moved from the position where he had just become third in the Balon D'or as he wasn't trusted in the position.
Please learn to read and stop slapping yourself on the head, it clearly isn't having a positive effect.

Gerrard was a top player but you can’t call him the best in the PL for 2 reasons imo.
1. He never won it
2. Rafa had to move him to RW and number 10 because he felt he didn’t have to discipline to play in a midfield 2.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Players don't win leagues. Teams do. If Gerrard played for United, he'd have won the league.
2. This one is the biggest load of nonsense. Gerrard was moved to the right for one season(Scholes was moved to the left, up front, to the right, behind the striker also, if you remember, nothing to do with discipline but a reference to point one, team) as we were struggling for goals. He both scored and assisted a load of goals, which proved to be the correct decision. Then he was moved behind Torres, where again he scored a load and assisted a load. He could have been a world class right back also, no matter where he played, he was outstanding.
When he played as a box to box, this is where he was best, however he was moved to where the team needed him, as he was such a great player who could do everything, it worked. This myth is up there with Scholes retiring from international duty due to playing on the left, which only happened around 9 times and which he stated he enjoyed, having enjoyed his best goalscoring season for United, from that position.
You can't just make up reasons players where moved to a position but to suggest one of the best players in the world in his position was moved from that position due to discipline issues, is frankly ridiculous. He had just received third place in the Balon D'or from that position, the highest he rated in it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We also had Mascherano and Alonso who had enough quality to play in the middle and had chemistry as a pair who freed Gerrard to wreak havoc. Was a great decision by Rafa
Sorry my initial comment was meant to be a reply to this one

Really. Sylvain Wiltord played for Arsenal with Henry and co. Perhaps it was before your time.

He wanted to join Chelsea as he had given years to Liverpool and he wanted to compete for titles. In the end, he couldn't go through with it. I'm sure he'll always have a slight regret but overall he'll be happy with his choice as he will go down as one of the most legendary players in the club's history.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he didn't go through with it because of the death threats
Doubt he'd have got in our midfield anyway at the time

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, he did want to join Chelsea before death threats convinced him otherwise, let's not pretend he chose Liverpool by choice...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well no, death threats did not convince him otherwise.
What is this, mythbusters? FFS.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wut? Yes they did, it's widely reported
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No it wasn't.

He missed the days when Jose was a good manager then.
