SAF’s biggest mistakes

Probably his feud with Magnier and McManus which led to them selling to the Glazers.

Process I kinda agree Re Neville, Scholes and Giggs but part of what Fergie was all about was loyalty, that and players he could trust and those three he defo could

That said I'm almost certain that none of us would find all that much to complain about his tenure?

Man was a motivational genius who MADE both players and teams rise above expectations

4-2 up against Everton But still bombing forward, Fellaini running the show, should have stopped him by hook or by crook, stuck Rooney on him, fouled him floored him, stamped on his head, closed the game out al la José bad game management, yes if evras header had gone the other side of the post, the game against the 10 men relegation threatened QPR would have irrelevant and the bitters would have had to crawl back into their blue bubble for another year

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That Evra header still haunts us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Fergie’s big mistake was not taking Scholes off when we went 4-2. He was out of puff by then. Everton ran through the midfield after that and the rest is history.

He stayed loyal to Neville, Scholes and Giggs too long also. Could have given them a proper send off but moved them on and replaced them one by one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I did a thread on this on the old 606 called the “old guard”.

I got savaged by the sentimental know it alls.

I have Diafol filtered

Kidding. He’s literally the nicest guy on here and he’s even posted his YouTube videos and seems like a stand up guy 🤘

Thanks Robb. I love SAF and all the good times he's given to me during my life but just thought it'd be an interesting discussion to have.

There's no videos for a while though I'm afraid. Not before I dye my white hair!

There is no evidence to back up that one. I would say the 140 million profit they made on their shares was what swung it.

Sellling to the Glazers seemed to have little affect on SAF.

Yeah it's great having the Glazers aint it.

No, not really. Why would you say that?

Playing a midfield two against Barcelona in the second final.

I can forgive him the first one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Especially when one of those was 38 year old Giggs. In reality we had a favourable run to the final that year and probably would have lost regardless of selection.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This was made worst by him not changing it for the second half with us still in the game.

It really wouldn’t have mattered who we’d played.. that barca team were in both finals comfortably a level above.

Yet it was still 1-1 at HT dispite us being outnumbered in midfield. We made the 2nd half too easy for them. Fergie knew it, and was really p!ssed off after the match.

They’re playing that Everton game on MOTD right now

You can't known that for sure. Fergie made mistakes and you never know what could have been.

I would say selling Jaap Stam has to be his biggest mistake, He admitted that himself as well.

What about selling Ronaldo for what was peanuts really...although he wanted out

posted on 10/5/20

It was comfortably the most expensive transfer of all time. How was it peanuts?

yes it was....& we all went "wow that's a lot"....but in reality it was peanuts

RM shirt sales alone would have covered that...

posted on 10/5/20

Yeah ok, Captain Hindsight. I bet you were not saying this in 2009. That just wasn’t the pervading view. Your ‘in reality’ wasn’t a reality.

Yeah I thought Real overpaid for Ronaldo at that time.

I remember saying 80m was too much.

Spent more than that on Pogba. Years apart and inflation, but still..

How can anyone say the Ronaldo sale was a mistake?

Ferguson had a player that wanted to leave to fulfil his childhood dream.

He persuaded him to stay for another season and got a world record fee for him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah it’s not saf’s fault. Like it or not they are a bigger pull than us, and players will want to go to them. SAF got an extra season from Ronaldo, the fee wasn’t up to him.. not much he could do when the player wanted to go

Not replacing Ronaldo properly was a huge mistake

Valencia, Owen and Obertan showed that quality over quantity is a valid saying
