This is the problem with competition during a pandemic.

The clubs that want the season to be completed will use every trick in the book to start the season and keep it going (eg potential lack of testing if it increases the chances of delays).

Conversely the clubs that don't want the season to be completed will use every trick to delay the season or help cancel it (eg less strict on social distancing, frequent testing, less stringent on other rules).

No different to time-wasting substitutions or fake injury. Competiton will always lead to clubs wanting that slight advantage.

5 stars for cynicism.

Probably justified.

Needs to be cancelled. All this restart nonsense is stupid. Safety first, fack football and other sports..

Clubs will only look out for themselves at the end of the day. Business is business. The cost each Club might have to pay back on the TV Deal pales to the cost of relegation. If Clubs in the bottom 6 or the saboteurs as the media love to call them suddenly start saying players have contracted covid would you be surprised?

Bar the top 6 teams would you be surprised if any club in the premier league started announcing players have caught it. Besides a few teams in the league I'm willing to bet the rest aren't bothered about finishing the season. The players mentality won't be right, the effort won't be there and neither will the physicality. Too much anxiety and worry will make for apalling games they'd rather not be at. Most of them are probably annoyed there summer holidays have been ruined!

This pointless vote will probably go through with the bottom six against. I'd laugh my a 55 off if more clubs saw sense and really put the boot in. The mid table clubs with nothing to win, season already done and players already at the beach before the league was put on hold. Mid table Clubs that could still get drawn into a relegation dof fight. The 5 h1 t would really hit the fan if 10 teams said NO.

It seems perfectly obvious that teams in peril are delibeartely infecting their players with a deadly virus to avoid the drop.

posted on 10/5/20

All they have to do is say "it's either neutral venues or league positions frozen and relegation as usual" and they'll suddenly have three extra teams eager to vote for neutral venues and no player availability problems.

I bet if you told them it was either wage cut or play the games, they would be desperate to play. They've already refused a cut.

Football needs to realise it has to adapt to this. It's not going away and if it cannot find a way to safely adapt, it's worthless. No one pays for sports TV if there are no games, then TV companies don't pay clubs and then clubs can't pay players.

Exactly. Getting to the point when front line staff have had to deal with much worse conditions and less protection but we are supposed to feel pity for PL footballers? Hard to take really if u are a teacher/nurse/food delivery driver/supermarket worker.

Its clear they don't live in the real world. The most minimal amount of risk imaginable for people working, crazy life changing money each week, 2 month holiday and clubs risk going out of business but let's cancel the season...

The chances of a PL player dying are so small and their fitness levels and demographic again downgrade the risk massively. Closed stadiums/funds to quarantine/daily tests and skeleton staff.
There are people that would beg to be able to work in them conditions, let's alone the wages or being paid to kick a ball around!

If the players refuse to take a sizable paycut then the leagues will continue to look to play the final fixtures.

Can’t they just force them too? UEFA/FA etc put out a rule?

A lot of players will be desperate to get back playing. It’s just not their views that are publicised.

I doubt the players are much at fault through any of this.

It’s the club owners at risk of relegation trying to protect their assets causing the most disruption.

Most club owners need the season to finish though because they need their share of the final instalment paid by the broadcasters. Without that a lot of clubs will be in trouble.

Exactly. I think the problem is people let their club bias dictate what their view on continuing the season is.
The fact football may die as we know seems to be off most people's radars.

We want a PL with record wages so we get the best players but don't want to admit that when TV money is what keeps most teams afloat in the PL, we are bent over a barrel. We made a deal with the devil and this is the consequence.

Fack them. The greed in the ol really, really makes it hard to like or feel any sympathy for.

It makes me laugh when people accuse teams of wanting whats best for them, of course they do. Liverpool would agree to a sh1tt shovelling competition in Death Valley if it counted as playing out the season whereas Brighton don't want it to restart under any circumstances.

As a 14-6 vote will do it either way the Prem top brass must be very relieved there are only 6 teams realistically in relegation trouble. Would be funny if they managed to persuade a 7th to go with them but I doubt that'll happen.

I don't think the public share the Prems desperation to get the footie back on. Neutral grounds, zero crowds and 5 subs will be a shocking spectacle and is downright unfair on any club that had more home than away games remaining.

Last time I looked Spurs big rivals were Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham.

There is alot of Liverpool v Spurs banter on this forum but away from here both sets of supporters get on just fine.

Spurs have had a rubbish season and its hardly surprising that many fans would rather null and void it than play it out under ridiculous conditions.

However I if we were in Liverpool or Leeds position I would probably feel differently.

Yhay also want next season's CL cancelled seeing as they have no chance of appearing in it. Why should another team have the chance to win it if Spurs aren't in it.

For those who will get relegated not receiving the final third of the TV money is a lot better than risk of dropping down and staying down fora number of years like Sunderland, stoke, birmingham etc. I said it to my mates at the beginning of the pause, they will do everything they can to get the season cancelled. They would much rather have another go at staying up than risk resuming the 9 games and having to play their way to safety. They will push for a cancelation and teams stay as it is or for the idea of having 22 teams.

I think it's fair to say everyone wants this damn season to end. It's not the fact we haven't played since early March. It's the abysmal leadership of our own Government, The Premier League and UEFA that have proved once again, the people that are supposed to lead....fail.

Apalling communication on every level has seemingly made it all drag on now and I'm sure with many more twists to come. No wonder Clubs are using what alot of fans see as underhand tactics to end the season. So what. Nobody can blame any club for putting selfish reasons above all, Covid and neutral grounds fairness might aswell be pushed to the hilt.

Nothing Boris is gonna say tonight will change the fact project Restart is complete nonsense. Look what's happening in Germany. Entitled rich footballers getting tested before front line staff who can't and are dying daily trying to save people will always leave a sick taste in my mouth.

If the Europa and Cl do happen in the 20/21 season then they will be in a very different format to usual.

Remember qualifiers normally start in July.
