Interesting take on Boris speech from a psychologist.
Basically the messages were in the diagrams. Subtle changes in how the yellow squares now have green stripes instead of red. Red means stop. Green means go.
Reckons people will be taken in by this and stop isolating as much. But can't blame the govt as they never said stop. Be alert is the message and that could be used to blame anyone getting infected as not being alert.
Not a CT fan by any stretch but made sense. Especially when you consider that marketing is all about psychology these days. From attacking opposition leaders and how they eat/dress rather than policy and even why McDonald's have certain colour wchemes which attract people but play specific music so they don't stay too long.
I've always wanted to be a lert.
Do I have to learn a new language though?
Boris and Co could not have handled the UK's own Covid 19 crisis any worse than they already have.
His ridiculous and confused announcements yesterday took the biscuit. Just ignore the buffoon and think for yourselves to save lives Just keep staying at home and stay safe for the meantime. Don't venture out to work yet (unless you are a frontline or key worker) until our R is well below .5.
He is even now running it as the PM of Little England for moronic political reasons to highlight a 'DisUnited Kingdom'.
Look at Germany. They were doing so well, yet even they relaxed their lockdown and their R has now gone up to over 1.
The new spike is now coming which will cause absolute havoc for the NHS, which is only really what this lot are concerned about.
Just saw a poll in the Guardian that has the U.K. Govt ahead in the percentages with regards to how well the public feels the Government has done.
The only real bad marks were for the slow reaction which as far as I can tell was Boris getting bad advice.
The U.K. was two weeks late in shutting down. I think we can all agree on that.

I would hate to think that we’re making it up as they go along, Nohlman.
One would hope it is planned.
Johnson locked down far too late, we had 3-4 weeks of a head start over Italy.
The party he leads oversaw the austerity that led to our NHS being under-prepared.
The party he leads ran Operation Cygnus, a pandemic war game, which alerted the powers-that-be to our shortfall in PPE and ventilators.
Johnson is leader of a party that celebrated, in Parliament, the denying the nurses and junior doctors a modest pay rise, but then led the Thursday evening clap to thank them.
Johnson's wing of the Conservative party want to deny immigrants the opportunity to work in our NHS and care homes.
Johnson ordered thoudsands of face masks from China which were defective and thousands of disposable aprons from Turkey which were defective.
Johnsons government only included care home deaths in figures 4 weeks after lockdown.
Johnson's lack of planning meant we had no nominated leader whilst he himself was at deaths door.
Johnson made a statement to the country about easing lockdown on Sunday, which he recorded on Saturday and did not consult 1 cabinet minister about.
Johnson has an unelected advisor who has more power and influence than a cabinet minister.
No government will come out of this without criticism, ours has been caught out particularly badly and deserves every brickbat it has coming. It's defenders will use every deflection, use whitabootery and imagine--if's to steer attention away from its inept response and dire reaction.

There is nothing confused about the governments message. It’s planned and well thought out strategy as they know people will now go out more and take this as an opportunity to see family and friends. It’s all planned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Planned Herd.
Second spike incoming.
Coronavirus approves this message.
Reading all this I am very thankful to live in Germany.
Wish I lived in Japan.
122 Million people.
700 Covid deaths.
And the people of this country have by and large followed that advice ... much more thoroughly than many other populations around the world.
Thanks to their efforts, what’s happened is that we’ve got the disease ... we’ve got the “R" down...
Oh he forgot to mention Britain have the 2nd highest death total in the world through following the Government`s advice.
Honestly how can he come out and say the Government are doing a good job. They are just about doing the worse job, other than Trump and his motley crew, the worse job of any Government in the world.

The idiot over here still doesn’t get what the benefit of testing gives despite one of his own staffers testing positive this week end.
He doesn’t understand that she would still be spreading it if she hadn’t been tested and put in isolation.
How can anyone not get this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You always seem to bring up Trump to defend Boris whenever someone insults him.
What Trump does or doesn’t do has no bearing on how awful a job Boris and the Tories are doing right now. And it is a horrifically bad job and they have blood on their hands.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree, both have done awful jobs but trump far, far worse than Boris. Worthy comparison imo. But I’m not surprised robb is trying to deflect from trump- he loves him.

Classic whataboutery
Trump is doing a horrifically bad job. But that’s a separate debate. This article is called ‘Boris’ and the truth of the matter is that he’s facked up badly and bringing up other people to deflect the blame is stupid and unnecessary.

I don't think it's particularly unfair to say he's not a very good person. Many are also saying he's incompetent.
There is a flip side to this though. If they actually want herd immunity, to protect the economy as best they can AND get down the dependancy ratio at the same time they're actually doing a brilliant job.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you watch the early interviews where they are pushing herd immunity, 'taking it on the chin' and protecting the economy it's exactly what they've done.
Sure, they say different because there was uproar but they are achieving exactly what they initially set out to do.
Furlough scheme to be extended but reduced to payments of 60%.
IE. Rich people are losing money, you are disposable, get back to work you feckless working class $ccum.
There is a balance to be made between the economy and the virus.
The furloughing measures are necessary and welcome but costing us already more than the annual NHS budget.
Some firms are taking advantage. Many just using the furloughing to protect their profits etc when actually they should be using it as a last measure - It's kinda like how many people use the NHS. Its there. Its free. They abuse it without consequence.
The country needs to get back to work. Some people have been furloughed on the basis of the inability to access work (not able to work from home). As much of this as possible needs to stop, not just because its costing us billions but because it is also stalling the economy.
If the slogan is Stay At Home, then those who cannot work from home have a reason not to work but stay at home on 80% of pay.
If the slogan is as it is now, then the those who can work should, and employers should be putting in measures to ensure people can safely work.
To me the message is poorly expressed but i fully understand where it is coming from. It's all about starting an economic recovery and removing barriers/excuses preventing people from doing business.
This will be followed up by an announcement on furloughing, which will probably see that cut from 80% to 60% (in some sectors) to encourage employees to make sure they get back to work.

The only deflection here is VC trying to deflect away from his hero Boris
Classic whataboutery
Trump is doing a horrifically bad job. But that’s a separate debate. This article is called ‘Boris’ and the truth of the matter is that he’s facked up badly and bringing up other people to deflect the blame is stupid and unnecessary.

Right then, America under Trump has the highest death toll in their continent and that’s pretty much down to his administration.
Britain under Boris and the Tories also have the highest death toll in their continent and that’s pretty much down to the administration.
How exactly is Trump faring badly than Boris? As far as I can see, they’re both as bad as anybody could be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some people don’t want to give the fair criticism to Boris. Sad really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
TBF one has the largest population and the other the second largest.
What would you expect the outcomes to be?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Germany and have France more you dunce.
Take some time off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You just got two words mixed up whilst calling someone a dunce and telling them to take time off
Your own advice is good. You should try it

I don't think it's particularly unfair to say he's not a very good person. Many are also saying he's incompetent.
There is a flip side to this though. If they actually want herd immunity, to protect the economy as best they can AND get down the dependancy ratio at the same time they're actually doing a brilliant job.

You're giving Johnson and Co too much credit. Though from what I read about Cummings, it may be what he wanted all along.
