with that same spirit we can get through Brexit.

----

What does that mean to you? Are you saying that socially it needn't be a big disruption, or that somehow the government will do a better job because of Covid?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No not the politicians, I expect they will act the same as they don't make big decisions anyway, I suspect.

Socially it may pull people together as we forget the political puppet show that drives wedges between the public.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Right I get it. Hopefully you're right on that. My gut feeling is the goodwill will last as long as the first headline about trade deals leaving the UK worse off. People aren't suddenly okay with it, they've just had more pressing things to deal with.

This war time rhetoric is just bullshiiiiiit.

Yeah there's that too. People will tire of that quickly.

It’s not histrionics. This is reality, and you’re trying to wishy wash it by saying we should all get together and cross our fingers everything will be sunny and rosy.

Over 2 million people are unemployed as of yesterday. Brexit is going to hammer that home even further as well as the virus. I can’t believe how deluded sections of the British electorate are.

No I imagine some will still come out swinging once this is over, but surely some will see how we get played year after year, however we vote, so arguing amongst ourselves over the outcome is utterly futile

Covid will only exasperate the division, because the Brexiters will use the pandemic to blur the lines between the impact of the pandemic and Brexit.

We aren’t all in this together. Because not everyone will suffer the same. Which is why your appeal to unity is booollocks, Shinji. There is no unity.

Right, so I' m the one saying lets be positive and MAYBE something good will come of this.

Meanwhile you are consigning us to doom.

But then warning that mental health problems are coming.

Sadly I don’t think any of this will bring a nation together. People are more and more divided as the years go by; identity politics etc. With the media only reinforcing people’s already existent views through algorithms to ‘offer what people like’ is only going to continue to strengthen extreme ideologies and polarise people more than ever.

Yes I think covid will be used as an excuse for economic effects of brexit but probably not totally. My opinion is the covid will have a far greater effect economically; certainly couple together our generation is going to have some very tough times ahead.

Alas, the majority won’t care as long as they have a flat screen, Netflix and can post selfies on Instagram or TikTok et al but don’t get me started on social media and its negative effects; far greater than brexovid

That's a slightly negative attitude, haha, but not one that can be ruled out, unfortunately.

One thing this pandemic will do, is make people appreciate the simple things outside of money. For a bit, at least.

You are offering absolutely nothing constructive for any positive to come of this though. Lives are being ruined because of the virus and Brexit. You seem to think we should smile it off.

Thing is, this whole situation is very much about how people voted. The idea that it doesn't matter is not only very wrong in this context, but also a dangerous way to think. It empowers crappy politicians to make crappy choices without being held to account.

I do agree there's a point at which people should stop blaming each other. I've long trotted out the line to people I talk to who support Brexit that 'I hope you're right'. However that should not stop anyone from criticising the job the government is doing - whatever you voted for. Democracy is worthless if people don't speak up for what they believe in because it's somehow easier or the 'Brexit spirit'.

Brexit has no economic basis, and we're now in the worst economic crisis in history...I don't see the logic in how tying your hand behind your back will help break your fall...

It’s the reality, Shinji. You can delude yourself with positivity all you like, but there’s very little to be positive about for the vast majority of the country after this pandemic and Brexit. This will soon dawn on many that think otherwise. It has for many that actually voted for Brexit, once all the lies were exposed and they realised they’re gonna be worse off. But at least we are all in it together, eh?

Brexit is stupid. It sucks and I genuinely can’t wait to leave this continent in 2 months and occasionally check back on the UK news just to see how much of a pig-fuccck in can become.

Ps, Brexit is stupid. Turkeys voting for Christmas and all that jazz.

Have whatever expression your face desires, but if we all just accept everything is sht and go around telling each other how sht it is going to be, when we've never even been there, it is not very productive.

I'd argue that going around telling each other that everything will be fine when it clearly isn't is worse.

Even during this pandemic we’ve seen the issues Brexit has caused. We struggled for PPE and ventilators, the EU offered a bulk-buy scheme, we opted out because we “aren’t in the EU anymore.”

Then the government back-tracked and said it was a communications error. They can’t both know about it and not know about it, so someone’s lying to us, again.

I don’t suppose you can kick-up a fuss about the evil EU then work with them when everything hits the fan, bad optics and all that.

Bet you're good at parties

I imagine you actually would be.

Well maybe I am a selfish caaant who doesn't think we'll all struggle more than ever.

One thing I will say, it could be a lot worse than living in post Brovid (one for Wahl) Britain.

But just how bad is it going to be. We don't really know if it is.

So I'd say positivity is best for now.

And I must say, I'm not some annoying fcker who is always bouncing around like Bambi with loads of energy being positive all the time.

posted on 20/5/20

Everyone will be worse off but they're in the struggle together, so that's good, right?

No. It's a facking chite state of affairs you're being conditioned to accept.
