Covid will only exasperate the division, because the Brexiters will use the pandemic to blur the lines between the impact of the pandemic and Brexit.

We aren’t all in this together. Because not everyone will suffer the same. Which is why your appeal to unity is booollocks, Shinji. There is no unity.

But you’re being wilfully ignorant of the obvious damaging impact on the country because you want to be positive. Your whole argument here is about being positive. Positivity means nothing in the face of evidence, something you then put down to negativity. Maybe your own circumstances allow you to have such delusion, but that’s not what I’m saying.

Fair comment

I don't like the sound of wilfully ignorant, but I can accept it.

And bank it for future arguments.

Here's a chance of positivity.

What if, through technological advances, we are able to manufacture more things in this country without the need to go to China, for example.

Welcome to the positive world of Additive Manufacturing.

It's happening already. And we're playing at it.

If the govt., I know they're sht, but if they give the right push, we could start to angle towards that and have something to look forward to and aim for. Whilst focussing education on this even more than they already are.

Doesn't take long to train people in this sector with the right leadership and candidates.

To give one example in a leading sector, I was talking to a surgeon in a Birmingham hospital and he said Theatre time has been reduced by two hours - £1200 per hour, just by the surgeon being able to 3D Print a model for £5 and use it to plan surgery, entry angles, etc.

That's per operation. So finacial and more importantly, massive health benefits.

And obviously every surgeon around the country can use this technique.

We're now talking medical devices.

But have the government put together a proposal for implementing these huge savings in our NHS hospitals?

Don't think so.

And they are only the beginning with desktop machines.

There are houses being built at a rapid rate. Boats.

If you line 10 machines up, maybe 20, they can compete with injection moulding, so that would definitely impact on the necessity to use Chinese warehouses for production. And the tooling costs are out of the window. And lead times are reduced.

Problem is that automation is not good for a country that has such little industry. The construction industry, for example, is going to really suffer.

Please don't debase the debate you've started with that.

3D printing seems like a great opportunity. Though that would've existed with or without Brexit - there's nothing to suggest it's some unique advantage that the UK could leverage to offset a recession.

posted on 20/5/20

It's not always a part of automation though, it's becoming a replacement in itself.

Although that will be the end goal. So yes construction will change. Maybe for the better? Less accidents, more streamlined, faster, better materials (more sustainable)- and we can train the would-be construction workers to be something else within the new techniques. Or outside.

With a CNC and a Metal 3D Printer, they're not cheap, granted, but tumbling as the market gets more competitive, steeply tumbling, you can manufacture precision parts, cost-effectively, from most metals with an outlay of about £300k retail. With Govt. help we could push this, if they choose to. Maybe less cost if you went 2nd hand.

That would give early adopters a big advantage. If we are them, then brilliant. Must help companies. And think of the educational opportunities mentioned above.

It's also changing the way we manufacture and negating the need for importing parts, which, if we did adopt this tech, we could set up manufacturing hubs wherever we please, for certain stuff.

As said earlier the injection moulding we could take from China would be huge.

Might be a long term vision, but I've seen the market adopting this tech over the last 6 years and it's been rapid.

And that machine is just £5.4k

And last but definitely not least, the carbon footprint is significantly reduced.

Brexit - good news for British farming and fishing industry from what I understand of it. Buy British. Bring it back. Tighter controls on immigration. More jobs available for Brits. Less Polski Slop minimarkets. Tesco rules OK!
