Shame we didn’t go for him. Goal machine.
Once we decided to keep Ighalo, I doubt a striker was really a priority, whether he would have come or not
Roman Abramovich, once again, on his way to assembling yet another decent side after a complete top-down rebuild.
His multi-billion pound war chest notwithstanding, you've really got to admire him at this point.

Could be a big mistake (if Werner would have come). Losing out on one of the top young(ish) striking talents in the world just to keep an average striker like Ighalo for the rest of the year.

Pool fans seemed gutted, but I wonder if it’s a blessing for them. Would Werner be able to link up as well as the far less prolific Firmino ladyboy? Not sure.
Sometimes signing too players disrupt a great dynamic, if it doesn’t quite fit.
Starting to wish they were in for him now.

I don’t think it’s as simple as that. Sancho is obviously the main target and spending fairly big on another attacker may hinder that pursuit.

Possibly but how often is a striker as highly rated and a good age (just turned 24) going to be available for £49 million?
Maybe we still think one day we’ll get Haaland

I thought he might be one we'd go for. With Ighalo staying until Jan, it looks more and more like we'll go balls out for Sancho. And he should be the priority.
I get that, but Sancho is a better player so it makes sense to prioritise funds for him.
I think we’ll definitely be looking at Haaland again in the future.
Getting Sancho and Werner could have sewn up any future striker/winger needs for a long time.
I assume Ole thinks martial at #9 is our future

With Ighalo, Martial and Greenwood all options, plus Rashford if needed, I can see why we've passed. Greenwood is going to be a great player and I don't see how we could keep him happy if we signed Werner and Sancho. With Ighalo we know he will accept a squad place, which won't unduly hamper Greenwood's development

We paused because we will likely blow an utter fortune on Sancho. Werner is way down the list.
I think we’re waiting on Haaland. I also think that Ole moving Rashford back to the left is indicative that he doesn’t want a cf that primarily plays on the shoulder, which Werner does. Plus it’s not as simple as just going and signing him anyway, Chelsea have regularly signed players ahead of us.

Yes is there is no certainty we would get him. But it looks like we haven't even made any attempt.
I think Real are gonna go balls deep on Haaland. Not that expensive and suits what they need post-Benzema
Hard to know how far our attempts went, Elvis.
Could be, Rob. A lot will depend on what happens with Mbappe.
Chelsea can afford it. if their club gets into financial problems.Their owner will just cough up the money. Their owner as already paid of a billion and half in debt.
Any other club would have disappeared down the plug hole
Didnt Chelsea recently post a huge profit? I guess a lot of that comes from the Hazard deal and no one coming in. They do have a big fund to swoop up players. The scenes if they get Sancho too 😹
The made a massive loss one year as well. Think it was last year was about £90m.

Ziyech who they’ve already signed from Ajax and Werner too, good business for Chelsea so far.
FFP calculations arent as straightforward as just what losses and profits are recorded. I think only certain things count in both sides of the balance sheet
Given we didnt use any of our 'allowance' in January i imagine we can afford a 54m signing
No one understands it clearly imo as there were loads of rumours/articles saying Arsenal had no money to spend last summer due to FFP and then they bought Pepe for like 70m

They didn't pay 70m in one go though. I think they paid 20m with the rest broken up to be paid each year. Its why they dropped the Zaha deal as CP wanted 70m up front or at least 50m up front.
