Was nothing to do with labour the recession of 2008 it was a worldwide problems caused by greedy bankers and they got bailed out and we were made to pay for it from the disgusting tories who have spent ten years treating the poorest in society like rubbish
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mate the labour government who ran one of the largest budget deficits in modern history with no intention or rational plan to balance the books in order to “end austerity”. Good one.
The same labour government who quite literally were responsible for implementing economic and fiscal policies to stop “greedy bankers” from taking advantage of an unsustainable system of lending for personal self gain yet did absolutely FA?
Yes it was a global financial crisis, but to say the deck wasn’t stacked by poor decision making, and was not the responsibility to manage by the elected labour government? Do me a favour.

With the amount of demosnstrations going on, the virus was like jackpot , thought id go away did you
We're all facked till a cure is found.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
BLM far left and far right should stay home now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. Then the sensible moderates like you and me can wander about in peace in the sunshine with blank placards protesting about nothing in particular.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha.
"Down with this sort of thing" is my fav placard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In all seriousness I do wonder if the protest would have been so extreme and with as huge numbers if there was not a lockdown in place ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good question.
It's an excuse to get out....to have a fight or virtue signal.
Well, for some...
There are good BLM protests with small crowds, social distancing and not attacking anything.
Not good news for tv though.

Sandy.
As a Londoner, do you feel things have improved from say the seventies when NF were strong, or do you think we are going backwards?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Definitely backwards mate. Far more people now have racist views than back then. Lots more people have been brainwashed about foreigners being the cause of all the problems. I know people that back in the 70s and 80s were pretty well main stream, now they have lurched towards the likes of Farage and the like.
Although London itself is still pretty tolerant, I think there are large pockets of the country that are not.

So it would be fair to blame the Tories then for the current financial meltdown that is about to take place, when you are quite clearly blaming Labour for the Banking crisis, which was also worldwide, and not in their hands.
You cannot blame Labour, then not blame the Tories about what is happening now. A 20 per cent drop in the economy in just a month. Tories obviously didn`t plan for a scenario like now, smacks of poor decision making by the Tories.
See it`s easy to blame the Tories, as you are blaming Labour.

I’ve never even mentioned the tories once..
I’m simply pointing out that labour are not in any way blameless for the 2008 recession in the UK and how protracted it was due to policies they implemented / failed to implement in their prior 11 years in charge of the country, as the other user stated.
However seeing as you have brought it up. Comparing a unprecedented viral outbreak leading to a global pandemic leading to a recession, with years of overspending by a government, and years of build up of toxic debt and failure to reform the banking policies responsible for this are slightly different scenarios.
But I really don’t want to get into that so I’ll just leave it at that.

The 2008 recession was caused by the meltdown of the US mortgage market, and the subsequent collapse of a US bank, Lehman Brothers.
It had nothing to do with Labour in the UK.
Jeez.

The financial crisis was primarily caused by deregulation in the financial industry. That permitted banks to engage in hedge fund trading with derivatives. ... When the values of the derivatives crumbled, banks stopped lending to each other. That created the financial crisis that led to the Great Recession.
Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy on September 15, 2008. Merrill Lynch, AIG, HBOS, Royal Bank of Scotland, Bradford & Bingley, Fortis, Hypo Real Estate, and Alliance & Leicester were all expected to follow—with a US federal bailout announced the following day beginning with $85 billion to AIG.
YES ... that was my tax payer dollars!
Should have let them all fold.
