I’ve never had an issue with the black lives matter wording. I don’t think you can get much less incendiary than just asking for their lives to matter. There’s not many steps on the ladder lower than just...mattering.
The key is who they are directing that message to though. They aren’t making a comment on any one else’s lives, it’s how others perceive theirs. They don’t need to tell a white American that his life matters, he’ll already think it does anyway. They’re asking that he thinks theirs does too, that’s it.
That’s also why this all lives matters and denouncing all racism is simplistic rubbish as well. Of course all racism is bad, not all of it is from the same root cause though and so can need different steps to fix it. The first for any form has to be understanding, acknowledgement and education of those root causes though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah but mate you’re assuming that the average person thinks of things in this similar reasoned manner; they don’t. A lot of people will take it completely the wrong way and I genuinely think that the wording should have catered for that reality.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I take the point but bear in mind black lives matter won’t fix this. Anything they say will not change the minds of the people you’re talking about, I’m not sure how they could have worded it in any way that would have made much of a difference to those stupid enough to be offended by this anyway.

Have these people genuinely never met people who aren't white and learnt different perspectives? Really don't get how people have no empathy for others situations.

For me, therein lies the problem with the naming. Implying that white people don’t think that BLM when the absolute vast majority do. It can get people’s backs up and in my opinion be counterproductive to the cause which is essentially ‘anti-racism’.
