And now this.

I thought we were supposed to live in a democracy.

We do live in a democracy. Im not sure you did think that though.

In Scotland, charges carrying sentences of less than two years have been held by a sherrif with no jury for years. Ir works very well. It's certainly not undemocratic.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Indictment trials are held in front of a jury. So crimes that carry 3 and over years.
All summary cases only use the judge

It certainly is, we are supposed to be judged by a jury of our peers, that goes back as far as the Magna Carter, this is just some cheap money saving sham.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I presume it's more to do with a backlog.

Many who are sitting on remand for far longer than they should have been would jump at the chance. Not ideal but there's justice issues either way

I'd sooner accept that than sit on remand for an extra 6 months for a crime I haven't been found guilty of.
Can you look past the hysteria and think of the facts and obstacles please? Your soundbites don't really mean anything in isolation.

Like we have done for years?
They're also tasked with directing the jury in indictment cases.
I doubt we would see any further miscarriages of justice.

A real issue in your courts is the fact the judge and jurors can see all the accused previous.
That's beyond Draconian and thankfully doesn't happen here.

Please stop telling people we do not understand BLM or white privilege.

We get it.

BLM are transporting American race and policing issues to the UK and Europe.....UK cops are not even armed and are not shooting or killing black men.

HR departments promote diversity training and black people are on screen, in all jobs, getting into uni, part of our sporting, music, arts and cultural UK lives.

There are scholarships for Black people and legislation to stop discrimination based on race...so countering white privilege directly, rather than attacking a statue on YouTube.

Some are armed and the rest are armed with tasers. If you’re black you are 4X more likely to have a taser used against you and 8X more likely to be stopped and searched.

The police are institutionally racist, that has been proved beyond doubt.

Yeah listened to her this morning and have to say that on paper what she says sounds good. In real life though not so much.

This isn't just with regards to bame communities but at a wider level.

Take for example the local authorities having investors in people accolades, yet within 6 months they restructured and laid off loads of staff

Or the whole disability friendly badges given to likes of supermarkets that have disabled toilets, yet many disabled people will tell you they are not fit for purpose and never were to begin with.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The money issue is wide reaching. Many of the "programmes" she alludes to are less about helping the target group and more about accessing money available for such schemes.

I worked on a scheme which was aimed at bame and the NHS. We funded a one year project and the aim was to highlight the need for such a project. The PCT was all over us for the money. The proviso was that after the one year if a need was proven then the project would become mainstream.

It was a resounding success. But once the money wasn't available the project was dropped. Few years later money became available and again PCT all over it. Only this time they couldn't get the target audience to take it seriously and invest their time in it. Basically because they had the first time only to be dropped like a bad habit

And now this.

I thought we were supposed to live in a democracy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We do live in a democracy. Im not sure you did think that though.

In Scotland, charges carrying sentences of less than two years have been held by a sherrif with no jury for years. Ir works very well. It's certainly not undemocratic.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It certainly is, we are supposed to be judged by a jury of our peers, that goes back as far as the Magna Carter, this is just some cheap money saving sham.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I presume it's more to do with a backlog.

Many who are sitting on remand for far longer than they should have been would jump at the chance. Not ideal but there's justice issues either way
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup.
This is straightforward though. Needs decisive action to clear the backlog.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So just depend on the whim of some random judge.

Banana republic much?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's a racist term. Please stop using it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just watched Inaya Iman on GMTV speak about BLM and a different view from a black British woman.

Everyone should have a look.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Inaya Iman.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dreadful creature, not worth a second of my time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nobody is asking you to pump her.
