I also struggle to remember who played when, but not sure I'd have Baines in any of my teams!
Interesting thread - will give it some thought.
PS - Cantona, Bergkamp and Shearer... wow!
There's something... missing from that last XI but I can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps someone will be along in a few moments to help me out.

De Bruyne really played for long enough to be in over Toure?

These debates are always tricky and longevity vs short term impact is probably the biggest disagreement.

I always set a personal rule of the player needing to have 200 PL appearances that decade but I totally get why somebody would just put the best 11 players in from the decade.
Does anyone know if it's better to be good but only be there for a short time or be bad but be there for ages? I'd be inclined to go for the bad player.

And nothing to do with team bias
2020s so far:
Liverpool team and Rooney
Could have easily had Toure in over de-bruyne but i love watching the latter.
I don't rate de gea that highly but there wasn't that much competition.
Maybe Suarez for Kane?

A large dose of that of course - some more than others!
I prefer longevity, because I think it's easy to be seduced into thinking a player is top of the pile after a stonking couple of seasons, when after 5 or 10 years you may feel differently.
De Gea is an interesting one in that regard.
Amazing keeper but the judgement of him as a PL player is shifting because of recent performances.
You could argue that because Rooney played all positions at one point or another the whole team should be Rooney. I don't see why he should be excluded from the midfield just because he is also upfront.
I'd defo have Yaya Toure in the last 2010s team ahead of Kante. Yaya Toure was initially a box to box midfielder then became more advanced. Left backs is really hard for this decade. Ashley Cole and Evra were not in their prime during the last decade. Robertson could be a strong candidate but broke in the Liverpool team during 2017/2018. Azpilecuetta (can't remember how you spell his name) did play left back for Chelsea in his first 3 seasons or so as well so another shout.
This is spread across teams but
I am a huge fan of Hazard, absolutely love watching him when he's on it, but Bale hit ridiculous heights so Id have him in despite the lack of medals.
Salah did something no one else ever has in terms of Prem goals so Id have him in. Id also have Andy Cole over Cantona which may not be a popular choice but always thought one was overrated and the other under.
Schmeichel
Dixon Adams Pallister Irwin
Keane Scholes
Cantona Bergkamp Giggs
Shearer
Cech
G Neville Ferdinand Vidic Cole
Gerrard Vieira Lampard
Ronaldo Rooney Henry
DDG
Zabaleta Kompany Terry Azpilicueta
D Silva Kante Toure Hazard
Suarez Aguero
