Kane doesn’t look as sharp as he did a few years ago either.

Shearer hit 140 after 191 games, so 17 faster than kane

Shearer had just turned 28, kane about to turn 27

If anyone is going to be in with a shot it will be kane
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kane should stay good for longer than Shearer did. Most players can go to an older age nowadays.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You underestimate how good Shearer was in his 30’s. He scored 20+ twice in his 30’s, even after all his injuries.

Beating his record will be very difficult. Kane will need like five more 20+ seasons at least.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not underestimating him, but I would expect more consistency from Kane in his early 30's to his mid-30's than Shearer had.

As we've seen already Kane has posted better stats so far in his injury hit years. He's still getting in that 1 in 2 ratio or better.

So much of it will be down to what team he plays for and how attacking they are. He’s had a real dip in shots/chances this season due to no more Eriksen, looking fatigued and Spurs generally looking weaker and less creative.

What he did with Blackburn was ridiculous. 112 prem goals in 138 games. Scored 30+ three times in a row. He didn’t manage 30+ once with Newcastle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They were 42 game seasons for 2 of those times Shearer got over 30 with Blackburn. That would have helped.

For a few years Shearer was scoring more goals in his 30’s than Kane has in his mid 20’s. And Shearer’s knees were shot. Kane will do well to score as many in his 30’s as Shearer did.

Remarkable player over the years and incredible goal record.

I do feel he isn't anywhere near the player he was of 3/4 years ago though.

the team he plays for arent anywhere near the team they were either tbf

True

Of course it helped, but that goals to game record is ridiculous.

From playing more games though. Kane's ratio has been better in those seasons.

Personally I think Kane will break that record as long as he stays in the league and doesn't suffer any major injuries.

But Kane suffering injuries already, thus playing fewer games that gammy knees Shearer, doesn’t bode well. If he’s having these problems now, so scoring fewer than Shearer was, he’ll find it even harder in his 30’s. Aguero is having similar problems, and he plays in a much better team than Kane and Shearer did.

Doesn't always work like that and Shearer was suffering injury problems around this same age in his career himself.

RVP is a good example of a player who was constantly suffering injuries in the early part of his Arsenal career, then played in 76 matches in his last season at Arsenal and first season at United.

We shouldn't automatically assume Kane's going to be a busted flush in his 30's.

Shearer done in acl, and it caused him problems for the rest of his career. But even still, he scored a lot of goals in his 30’s - especially considering the team he was in.

I’m not saying Kane will be a busted flush either. I’m saying you’re underestimating how good Shearer was in his 30’s. Kane will do really well to emulate that. I don’t think it’s a given he will.

Kane isn’t as mobile as he was a few seasons ago but his all round game is clearly better IMO.

As long as Kane has longevity he doesn’t really need to be that prolific to break Shearer’s record. If he stays in the PL until 35 (still a big ask), he only needs to score 15 a season to break the record.

posted on 16/7/20

Don’t forget than Shearer retired from England when he was 30. He went on to score about another 90 PL goals post international retirement which helped him significantly.

Kane is 27 now and you’d expect him to at least be starting for England until at least the next World Cup. Tough

Kane wants the england goals record too

Gonna be tough when he gets benched for Greenwood.

Southgate wont do that unless greenwood is getting like 40 goals a season

He loves Kane

Kane is a hungry striker and clearly quality in how he is on and off the pitch. I don't think there is a question he'll be able to emulate Shearer in the same circumstances.

As Edbo says, he doesn't even need to have the very prolific seasons to match the record, he just needs to remain fit enough to score as many goals as he has the last couple of seasons for the next 7 years or so.

posted on 16/7/20

Yeah I’m joking. Kane’s spot in the England team is safe for a good few years yet.

Shearer retired at 30. But we were really shiiiiit at Euro 2000 and had Owen.

Even if Kane does lose his spot around that age, he’ll probably stick around in the squad as we have such a promising young side.

Not to hype him up too much but Greenwood should now be looking to be the one to break the goal record that Kane will take from Shearer.

Greenwood looks insanely good but this might be a bit much

I think a lot depends on whether Greenwood plays centrally or coming off the flanks. If he’s chasing full-backs he likely won’t be in goal scoring positions as much.
