What was our transfer record before He bought VVD? 35m carroll ? pretty sure even Spurs and Everton had higher. And those signings only really happened because we got 140m for Coutinho :/.

Probably less than 14m net spend per season since Klopps been here which must be like 17th highest in the prem. Its about time the owners backed him like the other Clubs back their managers with 100+m net a window like Pep.

Just shows you how good a manager Klopp is. Ferguson was right when he said he was worried when Liverpool got Klopp.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was extremely worried too. I remember they were being linked with Ancelotti, and I was willing that to happen. But Klopp was always a likely appointment

Yeah I was hoping Ancelotti would go there instead of Klopp. Carlo’s a good coach, but he’s not capable of doing what Klopp has done, even with Liverpool’s transfer team.

"Other clubs can go out and spend money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You missed out the part where he said he wouldn't be in football when they pay large amounts for players as United did for Pogba.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then went out and smashed the record for a defender and goalkeeper.

They had Henderson, Firmino, Lovren and Gomez as well (though Gomez didn’t play much back then).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
and TAA of course, though he was presumably still in nappies.

but i'm with jinja on this, if your scouts go out and buy you good players, you will have a good team. if they buy you very good players, you will have a very good team.

from what i read quite a lot of the credit, for some purchases certainly (robertson, salah), goes to the scouts rather than the manager.

so i know some people are determined to blame ole for what he doesn't do - why doesn't he shout a lot on the sidelines, klopp does? - but really the lessons to be learned at the club are mainly for the scouts and negotiating team - buy some good players for less than stupid fees please.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty much. People talk like Klopp and Pep would help develop Lingard and Pereira into world class players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pep always acknowledge that its the players that makes him win trophies.

Yeah it's not that Carlo is bad. But I just don't think he's really ever overachieved with the clubs he's managed. He's always done a good job, but often had exceptional squads with which to do so. Whereas Klopp clearly is a pretty special manager. When it was a straight choice between the two, I was hoping they'd go with Carlo.

It’ll be interesting to see how he does with Everton. They aren’t a poor club, but they aren’t on the level of most of the clubs Carlo’s managed. And they waste money on a lot of shiiiiit. Which I don’t think is all down to the manager.

Yeah, he's already steadied the ship there. But for the money they've spent, their squad isn't at all strong. As you say, it remains to be seen whether Carlo will be allowed to bring in the players he wants or what direction they move in with transfers

They actually make us look competent in the transfer market.

will be interesting to see how bielsa will fit into this scene. he took a team that had stagnated and finished 13th and with little addition in 2 years made them champs.
i dont think we can spend much and i know bielsa likes a small squad so im not expecting much.

Just staying up would be a good season, all things considered. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he got you into the top 10, especially with what Sheff Utd have done this season

if only klopp had said "calm down, calm down" in a molbyesque hybrid scouse/european accent, this would have been perfect.

Really hard to say with Leeds. They’re clearly more than the sum of their parts. Sometimes that can be a good thing in the prem with the team ethic remaining in tact, other times a team can be exposed for the lack of quality they actually have in the squad.

I’ve always wanted to see Bielsa manage in the premier league. He’s such an interesting character and coach.

The potential for him to blow up and rage quit most notably.

He’s a volatile character and there’s going to be a focus on Leeds like no other promoted team before.

Lamps feeling the pressure.

Maybe they'll blow it against Wolves.

Is anyone else cringing seeing these Liverpool pictures of players/coaches posing in front of trophies straddling two seasons?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team do this before it’s quite sad really. They’ve never actually won the CL and PL in same season and those photos of Fergie in 99 and 08 must really bother Liverpool that they’re trying to do same and not realizing how silly they look

The fact that they were eliminated from the CL in the last ,16 certainly doesn't make it less cringeworthy

I saw that. What I find desperate is their podcasts trying to pretend they have been dominant for the last 3-4 seasons yet it’s only been the last 2 years where they have become a good team. Dominant they have no clue what domination looks like since the hooligan years, and they have spent quite a few bob to get there

OP, Klopp spent £200million in just two transfer windows so he could win some trophies.

He's the same guy previously was saying he would never spend silly money on players!
