SO , it looks like Willy Caballero is in goal on Saturday then !
when john o'shea has a better save % than the most expensive goalkeeper ever
In De Gea’s first United season he was also poor. He was even rotated with Anders Lindegaard in his second prem season.
Could Kepa also just need time?
730th . He has to go, simple as that.
Incredible that we've still been able to get top four this season with this clown shoes in goal.
Save % statistics decreasing over the years also coincides with average shot distances decreasing over the years. Back in the 00s shots from outside the box were at an all time high, but in recent years with better analytics & tactical insights each season average shot quality is getting better.
Hence why the save %s are down, it’s easier to save 5 shots from long range than one from close range.

It's his second year and he's getting worse. He is just a VERY BELOW AVERAGE keeper. In England, you need a keeper who dominates the box. Goals go through him. I repeat something I've written many times over 2 seasons - we'd have been much better off with someone as average as Butland and we'd have saved 50m+. It's a ridiculous situation - a bit like Carlos Kaiser - but he never played, this clown gets picked.

Difference is DDG showed even in those first few seasons he had the capability to make world class saves, it just became inhumanly consistent for a 3-4 years stretch. Kepa hasn't done that at all & shot stopping's his main strength, how embarrassing is that?
He's a fairly dependable keeper when it comes to the basics, but if a shot of real quality comes at him he ain't keeping that b!tch out, most of the time he ain't getting close to it. That's fine most of the time, but I kid you not it's particularly 100% of the time - the shot's good = beats Kepa. Terrible for a top club keeper & utterly embarrassing for the most expensive keeper in the world.

His stats were also bad in La Liga.
I have a semi-serious theory that he has always just been a bad ‘keeper, but because he is not bad in the ‘usual’ way (he’s not like Mignolet/Karius - rarely makes massive, obvious errors) he has managed to slip his way to PL/La Liga football.
Kepa’s badness is most apparent when you delve into the stats. In his first season most fans were happy with him until maybe 3/4 of the season some fans started to note that the goals he lets in, while not obvious errors, are actually shots he should be saving. Around this time fans also started to note that we, all of a sudden started to concede a lot more long range screamers.
This kind of insidious analysis of his badness may explain how he could ‘slip under the radar’ so to speak

Or we could have just promoted Bulka for free instead of letting him go to PSG and rot on the bench. Literally anything else would have been better than bringing in Kepa, especially for that crazy fee.

This is true. I was saying last season he lets in loads of easy goals but many wouldn’t put them down as blatant errors, like some that De Gea had made, and concluded he had a solid season. There wasn’t anything that made you think he could be a top keeper. The early De Gea comparisons are really bad as well. De Gea wasn’t poor in his first season. He didn’t start every game as he was a young, weak keeper and Fergie wanted to protect him. But you could see he had reflexes that nobody else in the league had. And once he nailed down the number one spot he never looked back. Kepa isn’t comparable to him at all.

Yep, I am that fan. Perfectly summed up
The first one that got my spidey sense tingling was Martial's second goal at SB. Fabulous finish, goal was 100% Alonso/Luiz's fault, but it was the way the ball was past Kepa before he even thought about diving despite being telegraphed. Rang a tiny alarm in my head that kept me on watch the rest of the season & from there patterns began emerging.
He's a perfectly respectable keeper just not cut out for the top level. He'll have a good career in that EL/top half level.

Yeah agreed and this is why it’s a good point from BK. The best keepers have incredible levels of anticipation which is really tough to quantify or even to try to visually break it down. It’s why Alisson is so good, even DDG or Lloris but the latter two make more obvious clear cut errors.
