Time for a change. Not good enough for the bench

I think he'll be kept and Andreas will be sold.

He needs to leave. He is literally stealing a wage. Honestly he is totally useless. Other than the very last kick of the season what has he contributed. He has done nothing for nearly 3 years now. Get rid and get someone better in

5 year contract incoming

posted on 29/7/20

Have no ill feeling to him, but he’s just not good enough.

Giving him a £100k contract was crazy.

Not good enough unfortunatley, however I'd like to see Pereira sold before him.

It is important to get some home grown players as they usually really care for the club and put the effort in and it's sad if he goes but I don't think he's pushed on enough recently to warrant being kept.

Lingard's £100K per week is just another example of United's many daft player's contract negotiations since Fergie and David Gill stepped down.

The Club has been run mainly by clowns since then.

If he leaves, I wish him all the best. I know some here don't like him. There was one point he did look like he could become a decent player but since then he has been awful.

I had thought he could be a decent squad option but now he can't even do that. Sadly, in this game teams or people move on.

Devil's advocate argument incoming - if his terrible form has come from dealing with tough times in his personal life, and if he emerges from that a stronger, more mature human being, it's just possible that Lingard's best football is ahead of him (cue jokes about youngster with potential). There have been glimpses of him providing the tireless pressing and one-touch passing around the forward line that complement the kind of football we want.

Of course, we need more than glimpses after years at the club, and even if he were consistently playing at the top level we've seen him at, that would constitute greater quality on the bench, rather than a talent we'd never forgive ourselves for letting go.

Probably time for him to leave. But I say that with a tinge of regret, because I think he could have made it as an attacking John O'Shea for us if things had worked out slightly differently in his life.

If all you haters went through a tough year with a sick mother and young siblings to deal with, then we're told to go find a new employer by your company, how would you feel? Take off the idiotic fan hat and put on your human hat for a second.

He will probably get some game time in the upcoming Europa games which will either seal his fate or buy him another 6 months or so

Whats his excuse for 3 good months at United in his whole United career?
Sorry its not nice what has gone in his personal life but lets not let sentiment get in the way of the fact he simply isn't a good enough footballer. He should be first out the door along with Sanchez

I reckon being paid over £5 million a year would soften the blow of being told to find a new employer.

He's probably not feeling financially insecure, but it's going to suck being kicked out after all the sacrifices, hopes and dreams invested in coming up through the youth teams to play for United - especially at the end of a terrible year in his personal and mental life.

That's not to say it's the wrong decision to part company at this point, but I agree with those who feel distanced from the more contemptuous stances toward Lingard. To me hating players who aren't meeting the highest standards isn't far removed from only supporting the club when if it's winning.

I’ve never understood how people can dislike him.

He’s an absolutely dyed-in-the-wool, lifelong red who works his backside off every time he’s on the pitch.

Plays with a smile on his face, is loved in the dressing room and by everyone else at the club, and does a lot to help the youngsters coming through.

Whether he cuts it at the top level or not - and I accept people questioning his abilities absolutely - I’ve never understood the antipathy some show towards him, which has bordered on the vitriolic at times.

It’s madness.

You praise his attitude. I see a player who is more interested in silliness than understanding his place as a senior member of the team.
He should be setting good examples to rashy, martial, greenwood and not dabbing and clowning. Did you see the nonsense on the bus a year or so ago?

As disappointing as hes been I wouldn't prioritise him as being first out the door.

Theres probably 2 or 3 ahead of him in that regard

Player who gives everything every game. We all know he's not good enough going forward but I despair at the vitriol that some players get.

His annoying personality.

Not saying you have to dislike him for it, I'm just saying it's really obvious why some people dislike him, me included.

Oh I completely agree that there's no need for the hate - it's not his fault the club decided to give him that contract.

I also sympathise with being told you're not wanted at the club you love.

But as you say, none of that is enough reason to keep him and I would also say it's not really being 'kicked out'.

By all accounts he sets a very positive example in the things that matter most - demeanour and work rate in training. I'd judge his attitude and the example he sets based on what he does at work rather than his spare time / while commuting, but then I'm not deeply concerned about millennials driving civilizational decline.

Ive nothing against the lad but I don't think he's helped himself over the years with the social media stuff. Although in fairness it's all but disappeared since last summer from what hes said.
I do sympathise with the personal problems hes had
