The fact that Inter might wanna use him now in EL finals that improve our chances quite a bit, I think.

you might buy the best player in the world, and then he get hit in a car accident the next day

This is a good analogy. Sanchez played like he’d been in a car accident.

Like VC says, Ed needs to stand firm on this.

......

It is what Real have done with Bale. And for once I am on the side of Real.

And what Bale has done is why we should never even consider signing him.

as far as i can see they have asked to extend his loan to allow him to play to the end of the tournament, and we have said that we're not interested in further loans, but in a permanent deal.

and now all these rumours of them wanting to buy him have appeared.

so yes, it does look like it is a tiny bit of leverage in our favour (and with an unwanted player on 400k a week on our books, any leverage is better than none)

I have a feeling that Inter are hoping that we'll do them some kind of 'buddy deal' since they've already bought Lukaku and Young off us last season.

But this deal also depends on how much Sanchez wants a fresh start. IE how much is he willing to reduce his wage to get it.

In fairness, we're fortunate that we never paid a huge fee for him in the first place. But that having a moody soul at the club gone, lifts the place. It's good that he's finding his feet again somewhere else.

Hope it doesn't come back to haunt us in the Europa if we meet
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there any real evidence that Sanchez was a moody soul at United?

Could be true but was probably just lazy media assumptions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Though i don't know him personally, he's apparently had a record of sulking moments even during his time at Arsenal which isn't a secret to anyone.

And supposedly having a fallout with Mason when he was here. Again, everything could be blown out of proportion, but you always got the feeling that he'd prefer to be elsewhere due to several factors.

Happened to an AC Milan player in about 1990. Will have to Google who it was now.

I've never understood this nonsense that its up to us to subside wages for players who leave us permanently.

Does he think he is worth £400k a week for the rest of his career? If he wants to leave to join Inter he should have to accept he won't be getting the same salary.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with you 100% but if you were offered probably 50% or less than what you already earn to work elsewhere would you take it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously not, but I am on an ordinary salary with bills to pay.

But if the choice is earning 100-200k a week at a place where I enjoyed working or 400k a week at a place which doesn't want me. I would choose the first option. I also know that I will not be getting 400k a week anywhere else when I move.

Like VC says, Ed needs to stand firm on this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All emotions aside I don't think many would at Sanchez age

You have to remember in football terms he is about getting to pensionable age

If I was young then sure I would do as you suggest. Less pay for what I enjoy, after all 100k is substantial

But say I was 63 and given a massive contract, my last contract before I retire.

Sorry but I would no way accept a pay cut

Yeah think he was a world record transfer at the time.

Everyone thought it was a good deal at the time.
-----------------------------
Whats this mess, there was a lot of reservation about this deal, he had already lost his legs, and most if you thought 400K a week was mental.

.......

It is one we could debate on all day.

From someone who loved playing football (me back in the day) I just couldn’t see myself being sat on the bench every Saturday and Wednesday just to pick up a massive paycheck. It wooo I do just be hollow to me.

I would do a Bogarde and just sit in the stands and collect a paycheck till the end.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The first bit is correct. There were a few of us on here who could see this.

I don’t think the excessively high wage became known until later. Originally it was believed to be from 250 - 300 K per week. Still more than he was worth at the time, mind.

Real were disgraceful in the whole saga, including the French frog. They told Bale he could leave, he got a deal to go to China and then they blocked deal and benched him. And you are siding with those twaats. Sums you up to be fair.

Bale doesn’t give a shiiiiit about playing football now. That much is obvious. At least Sanchez does.

I would even extend his loan if that were part of the deal to get rid of him.

Real agreed that he could leave on a free, then right at the last minute they decided that they wanted a fee for him. I think it was £40m. The buying club backed off and that was it. At which point Bale decided he'd just see out his contract. They shot themselves in the foot there. I don't rally blame Bale. He was going to leave and they fecked it up.

I think that may be what the plan is. I think the Europa League is complicating matters.

Though now we’ve secured CL football I think we’ll be more open to Sanchez playing for them in the competition.

Agree. If we do come across them if AWB can't handle Sanchez then we wont deserve to beat them.

Doubt we’ll play them anyway. Can only face them in the final, and Inter and Conte are notoriously crap in Europe.

My instinct would be to block him playing against us

Why give him the chance to put one over us while still paying him for the pleasure

posted on 29/7/20

Because we want them to sign him permanently. If talks break down over the Europa League we may be stuck with him. It’s worth the risk to get rid of the player.
