Who?

posted on 7/8/20

Just seen the highlights and have to say it is pretty outrageous that they ruled their goal out. I honestly don't know how they can make that decision when it is that tight. The rule needs changing to clear offside not this millimetre crap.

posted on 7/8/20

Didn't realise Lopetigui is the Sevilla manager these days.

Yeah that offside was ridiculous. I'm always fuming when they go against us, so feel a bit for Olympiakos that it happened to them in such a big game.

I wasn't aware that UEFA were using VAR that way with the silly lines though. I thought it was just the Premier League that was horribly misusing the technology.

Listen to these two who were actually at the game, DJ:-

I’ve listened and can’t spot a single comment that disagrees with my comments on this thread. Not often I can say that about the E&S.

Should be another great game against Seville. One thing is for sure it will be close. We have matched Liverpool and Man City in games this season and Seville are no better than them so we stand every chance.

We have not conceded in our last 4 home games in Europe so we are excellent defensively and we are always likely to nick a goal or two. Bring it on

Amazed at some criticising Raul who I thought was excellent.

posted on 7/8/20

I think Raul has been struggling for sharpness for a while but last night I thought he was right back to his best. His mobility, hold up play and link up play was top drawer

Not sure how fit he is but I would have maybe put Neto on rather than Jota last night, just think he's more direct and would have tested their dodgy keeper a bit more. Jimenez played well I thought, but not sure it was a night for rabona shots from 20 yards. Just bang it hard & low, get a good lead and then bring out the fancy stuff.

We will need to approach this like the Liverpool & Man City games I think, quite right to say that Seville are not in their class in terms of creativity and we should have nothing to fear. They will have an edge in experience and but I think we can match them for defensive quality and midfield strength (though they do look a big side).

Would have been nice to have "welcomed" Lopetegui to Molineux after he stood us up four years ago.

"Great game'
"Fabulous game"
Jimenez has been excellent"
"Raul back to his best"
"..we are excellent defensively"
Not sure I watched the same game as you DJ. We were poor and second best. Plus we had a very close VAR call go in our favour for once. Not sure where our defense was on quite a few occasions last night with crosses. Hussain's 'free' header just one example and but for Patricio, we could have lost last night. Man of the match, by far.

All that said, we're in the QF and will need to be a lot better than last night, if we hope to progress.

Alas only from the radio but it sounded like we did our usual of falling deeper and deeper and inviting pressure late on. Wish we could have controlled it better in the middle of the park as it seems we were very fortunate to cling on in the end.

Think Tuesday will be similar but if we can keep it tight perhaps Traore will scare them if we bring him on after 60 mins or so. Has to be a Jimenez Jota pairing for me.

Sevilla Europa record is crazy, winning the trophy in FIVE of the last nine attempts

Flattered as ever that you study every word I say wolfie. You don’t agree with me, and frankly I don’t give a damn

Great game last night, still buzzing

Picking up on one of your comments oldie I too noticed how big the Seville side looked, all over the field. Seemed to be real athletes as well as good players, and I was surprised how comfortably they beat Roma. Going to be a challenge for us but we have a good record against quality teams under Nuno

posted on 7/8/20

We played a top team , we won, not quite at our best, and yes our goalie saved us several times but Boly missed an open goal because he slid in with his right foot not his left, and Jota should have scored , so chances not all one way, and we would never have beaten them without a lot of our guys playing well, on Tuesday they all have to

posted on 7/8/20

I agree with DJ/Spangles. I thought it was a great game. I think why wolfie doesn't agree is because he is mistaking a great game for a great Wolves performance. Whilst we have all seen better Wolves performances you need to put it into perspective. These are not championship sides we are playing, they are some of the best in Europe and last night we played by far and away the best team in Greece.
It was end to end stuff with chances for goals at both ends. Yes Rui made two great saves but Jota and Boly should have scored and Jimenez could easily had one in the first minute or so.
So yes I agree it was a great game of football and Jimenez was excellent along with Coady, Patricio and Podence.

Concerns are that Jonny May have done his cruciate ligament in his knee which if true means a long lay off

amazed how he walked off if thats the case

Neto is still raw and when he has started he has seldom looked as good as when he comes on later in games and he is quite different to Jota anyway.

Jota and Jimenez need to start Tuesday I think with Neto and Traore to come on pretty quickly if we find ourselves in a hole.

posted on 7/8/20

Don't know where all this adoration for Jota comes from. He gives the ball away so much, misses so many chances and has only one assist all season. He IMO is much better as a impact sub.
Just saying.

Looks like Sevilla are no slouches defensively with 17 clean sheets in 38 league games.
