Will we sign Havertz?

I think it will, I think he'll be on a break now so will sign in a week or two if not sooner then join for preseason. Just a guess. Until then we'll see all orts of stories.

Nah I think we will, compromise will be reached with the 90mil figure made up in various ambitious add-on's, e.g. winning PL before set date, etc...

Leverkusen's only interest at this point will be maximizing profits. They know the player won't be there this time next year so they're betting we'll crack knowing this is our only window where reaching an agreement with him is nailed on, next summer they'll be bigger fish in the pool. My guess is they're right, we'll crack

If Havertz had a sense of humor even after a deal's done he'll delay signing the contract for a week or so in favor of trolling us on twitter, like a certain Eden Hazard did in 2012

I don't think we will crack. I hope they will.

Thing is 90mil for Havertz isn't unreasonable & we'll know that, so if we don't met it we're shooting ourselves in the foot if we believe he's a top player. Could be naivety but my faith in the board has risen considerably over the last 4-5 years, I can't see us walking away out of negotiating principle.

I actually think 90m it is unreasonable and i suspect the club (Marina does too)

Not really. Joao Felix went for 100mil+ last summer, Dembele 100mil+ in 2017, Sancho will be 100mil+ when he leaves Dortmund. The value of young players in this market is horrendous.

Bruno Fernandes cost 70mil at 25 y/o, you think Voller won't call BS on Havertz being worth 20mil more for four extra years?

If we manage to get Havertz down to something about 70-75mil, relative to the market that's a bargain

posted on 14/8/20

It will happen eventually I believe, I can see a lot of brinksmanship followed by compromise from both sides.

As Devil said this is the only window in which we're likely to get him, this time next year Bayern and the parasites from Madrid will have more money to spend and be a bigger draw than us,

If he's as good as his reputation would have us believe, his value will only increase if he showcases his talent with us and his price will increase making him a valuable investment.

I personally think we should do whatever it takes to get him before he ends up elsewhere. I see it being around the 90m mark but with about 75 up front and the rest in add ons!

Looking at it from Leverkusen's perspective they know they have something special in Havertz. If I was them I'd hold out for £90 million as well. Especially as they know we're a rich club and that we can afford it.

We paid £70 million for Kepa two years ago yet we're quibbling over £15-20 million in this window for a genuine generational talent. If we want the player then pay up.

True, no-one really knows how that'll affect the market at different levels yet, but if I look at this from Leverkusen's prospective it's reasonable - in a market without that uncertainty he'd in fact be valued higher.

They know Havertz going is a matter of when, they can also fairly assume Bayern will be all over him in 12 months time along with a few others - perhaps not at a valuation of 90mil with 12 months left on his contract but 60-70mil or something equivalent in trade won't be a problem (and they get an extra year of him which could be vital, compensates for it). The excess this summer could be interpreted as a first rights fee, and that's reasonable given the cards on the table, so it becomes a question of whether we think the player's good enough or not?

I don't disagree with that , but I think Marina's job is to buy the right players at the right price. A global recession plus the Kepa disaster is going to make price especially important...and no business in the world can survive by being casual about the odd 10m or 20m.

She could easily say to Frank I can get you player x (a top class goalkeeper) and player y (a top class LB) for a total of 90m. We have already bought to new attackers, the money is better spent here ...

I still have not spoken to anyone on here who can claim they have watched more than you tube clips of Havertz (myself included)...

On you tube clips (dangerous i know) he looks to be the best midfield goalscorer I have seen since Lampard..his timing of runs into the box appears amazing in the clips

I have a valuable scouting tool at my disposal Biggish, I'm a MASSIVE Football Manager nerd

My Havertz knowledge extends to reading a bunch of analytic material & seeing him kill it 100% of the time on a simulation game

I have to say I've never seen him on youtube either. I'm literally going on all the high profile expert opinions over him, who mostly seem to agree he is a very special player!

I have shamed you by correcting your smiley though!

To be fair I've not really thought about him, I would have thought there were cheaper options as good if not better out there but if Lampard wants him that badly he must see something in him.

As you know mate, I'm just s fan, never seen myself much of a judge who will or will not do well for us but I guess I see him as a Wayne bridge as opposed to an Ashley Cole.

He's another player I've not seen a lot of but what I have seen there was nothing that jumped out to me and made me think, "I'd love to see him in a Chelsea shirt!"

And to be fair, any comparison with Ash is a little unfair, as he was a one off model to me!
