Oh yeah, he's an excellent player. Didn't see Barcelona creating statues of Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Busquets, Pique. All of them played/have played for the club for ages, been class and won loads. It's weird and smacks of desperation to be creating statues at this point in a player's career. It's different if a player is iconic and has retired a long time ago or is deceased, like a Bobby Moore statue, but when a player hasn't even retired and is only 34 and has a couple of years left playing.
Wouldn't aguero make more sense when he leaves since he's their record goalscorer?

I suppose, but I'd give it a few years and also hope that Aguero would maintain links with the club, perhaps coming back to be part of the coaching set-up, or be an ambassador for City, or take part in outreach/youth programmes. I don't know, I'm sceptical about putting up statues in all but the most exceptional circumstances for it risks trivialising greatness.
This isn’t a new thing. Arsenal have Henry & bergkamp iirc

its obvious isnt it, city dont have a lot of history
There's been a statue of Best, Law and Charlton outside Old Trafford for about 30 years, 2 of them are still alive.
Trust George to go missing!

Liverpool didn't exist before the Moores Family gave Shankley a shedload of money.
Sounds like the start of a joke..
There were an Englishman, Scotsman and Irishman standing outside Old Trafford.
Different nationality, different position and different character but what a combination on the pitch.

Yeah, that's what happened. 😂
Liverpool could erect some statues in that new stand with the restricted views.
Toure didn't even get a cake!
He got a mural and a training pitch named after him.
One Premier League and they're telling other clubs who can or can't have statues dedicated to great players outside their grounds.

Strange where those first 5 titles came from
It seems a bit cringe on the outset but think about it - they’re coming to the end of their first truly successful
era, and it’ll be a truly iconic time/memory for their football club.
However I think something like this would’ve been more impactful if they ‘waited’ for their other iconic players of the last decade to all leave (Kompany, Yaya Toure, Aguero, Fernandinho) and then just made collective statue/monument to them all

Yeah, surely Aguero and Kompany at least deserve a statue?
A statue should be for a true one off icon, most probably a manager.

Yes, we didn't exist before 2008.
Kinda makes sense but where do you draw the line? Is Silva more deserving of one that Kompany? Aguero should get one too?
For me these 3 and to a lesser extent Toure all equally epitomize the modern day successful City we've come to know.

I'll trust my club to honour one of our most loved players in the way they think fit.
I hardly think a modest statue outside the stadium where he played for 10 years is OTT, it's not like he's going to replace Nelson in Trafalgar Square.

Maybe they can erect a statue of that CAS judge who ruled that they're allowed to continue cheating

Maybe you could erect one for the FFP officals who believed you spent £53m on a stadium which was never built.
