The myth of the Lampard underdog story

There is an argument to be made here for sure, but people really shouldn't reference players like Mount, Abraham, Tomori, James & Zouma coming back coming back to make it - only strengthens the opposite view.

-------------------------

I refer you to this comment:

"18/19 squad = 3rd place squad
- Hazard
- Luiz
- Higuain (doesn't matter)
- Cahill (doesn't matter)
+ Pulisic
+ Zouma
+ other Loan players
= midtable squad?

Does this make sense?"

Where would you put Luiz in that?
-------------------
We replaced Luiz with Zouma, equal exchange.

Or Cahill for that matter even though he didn't feature much the previous season but still would have been a huge influence given his experience.
-----------------
This is desperate.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nearly as desperate as your post.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which of the two sentences I wrote in response do you disagree with?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Both
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK so Luiz is better than Zouma? And you really think losing Cahill was a big loss?

I just can't agree with either of those things. I'm shocked that you're trying to make out that losing a past it Cahill that had more than lost his place in the team is a significant loss that's worth mentioning.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I explained why in my earlier post, like Terry in his last year Cahill's experience and leadership would have been missed.

I'm not asking or expecting you to agree with me, based on your history I would not be happy to be compared to you opinion wise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think Cahill's leadership is a big loss that even mattered significantly. I think it's ridiculous to even mention it honestly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Therein lies your problem, you pick and choose a situation to try and make a point.

When the same people saying Lampard’s done this amazing job were the same people saying that Chelsea’s youth players were amazing, something doesn’t quite add up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
quite. in october abraham was "better than rashford", now he's back down at the "untested championship punt" level.

reece james was being spoken of as a potential england stalwart before he'd even nailed down a spot in the chelsea side.

That's the stupid thing, Chelsea fans were excited before this season to see the young players because they thought they were going to be good. Brummiebro last season ffs was telling me about how Chelsea shouldn't sign Higuain because Abraham would be a better option.

It's the same squad apart from all the changes tbf.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll give you a chance to be sensible and not antagonistic towards me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It does to me. Looks like Chelsea lost a wealth of experience and had to plug the gaps with young players who'd been playing in the championship.

-----------------------------------------------------
The impression I got from people, was the case with me, is the mid table thing stemmed from a complete unknown about the quality of Lampard as a manager & that hypothetically finishing mid-table (unlikely) shouldn't convince the club to change because they had to anticipate it being a possibility taking a complete punt on a guy with zero top level managerial experience with no possibilities to improve the existing squad.

In that sense I guess a miracle attributed to pathetic expectations of behalf of a group of fans who should've had more faith in him, I don't believe it was so much about the squad quality. Most people at the start of the season had us 6th I think (purely because of the Hazard sale).

Chelsea also had a better squad than us at that point, apparently. Until we ended up finishing above them, and actually they performed a miracle to finish level on points with us.

I find it difficult to take most people seriously where Lampard and Ole are concerned. They’ve not done bad jobs this season, but many people are so desperate to hype them up that they’ll say anything.

Btw Pulisic was never a Hazard replacement. He was brought into replace Pedro. Pedro who hardly featured last season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
21 starts in the league and 10 sub appearances (second highest goal scorer in the league) and a further 11 starts and 3 sub appearances in the Europa. ‘Hardly featured’ looooool
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What a mug. Read what I typed again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So when comparing Sarri and Lampard you class ‘last season’ as two days ago having an absolute nightmare
