Put diesel in instead of petrol.
Starter motor packed up ED. Even after I took the key out it kept trying to turn the engine over.
It got hot and started to smoke so I disconnected the battery lead. Car piggy backed home by RAC.
Just made it home in time to see game.
Igor. I did once put petrol instead of diesel.
Didn't we all, well done tonight, great result and spirit, delighted for chris.
At least a starter motor is not too expensive......is it? Last one I changed I got from Fletchers for my 1952 Morris Minor, split screen, side valve, that must have been,,,,ooooh let's see, well at least a couple of weeks ago. Cost £7 10s 0d as I remember. Probably changed a bit by now. They used to be easy to change as well. Depends on the car I guess. All the best with getting it fixed, and glad you saw the game.
Mind, fault analysis head on now. Sounds like an electrical fault outside the starter motor, which may have been a sticking relay or switch, or something like it. Make sure you check that out too. Wouldn't want to burn another starter motor out.
I have my MOT on Saturday and am dreading it.
Everytime I change gear or decide to pick up speed, my car revs to around 4,500rpm before settling and then beginning to pick up the pace. Pulling out at roundabouts and t-junctions has become a nightmare.
Basically my car has the same initial 100 yard acceleration pace as Phill Jupitus after a night spent locked in a Ginsters factory.
Not that I would encourage it too much, but did you hear about the offer for a 4 months Centro travel pass for your old car? Maybe these two vehicles are worth far too much to consider that, but I thought it was quite an inventive piece of marketing. This report says it is just for buses, but I thought it included train as well when I heard it on WM.

My mate Mick the mechanical man tells me it is a faulty earth lead from the celanoid which sits on top of the
starter (??)
He said cars have caught fire on occasion and taking the lead off the battery was quick thinking. Something that's not usually said about me in the same sentence.
I've been on e-bay and looking around £60/70 second hand. £100ish new. My mate says recon for £50 fitted.
I've got a Discovery I and could get £300 if I weigh it in. That would buy a bus pass for three months and a Blues game. What to do ?
SCT, MOT? I know someone
ED.
That faulty earth makes sense RBC, solenoid by the way, not being picky, just in case you need to use it is all. Discovery must be costing a fortune to run these days.
Solenoid
It isn't too bad to run ED. Insurance is less than £150. Tax £215.
